Rapture |
||||||
Temtris are a female fronted heavy metal band from Australia formed in 1999 releasing their debut album 'Threshold' in 2003. Two further albums followed, 'Masquerade' in 2007 and 'Shallow Grave' in 2014, with their fourth album, 'Enter The Asylum' emerging in 2016. The band recently released 'Run' as the first single off their fifth album 'Rapture', due for release in the autumn of 2018.
Australia is a country well known around the world for its "outback" and "the bush", its high population of kangaroos and koalas, and the production of the long running soap drama Neighbours. But did you know that for the last twenty years, Australia has also been harbouring a sensational secret, a phenomenon that has to be heard to be believed. Since its formation in 1999, it has steadily grown in stature, maturing to become a formidable force, a powerhouse of aural intensity and exhilaration. It's time for Australia to give up its secret and introduce to the world the sensational heavy metal band Temtris. Fronted by the gorgeous Genevieve Rodda, Temtris deliver a pulsating and heavy hitting blend of traditional heavy metal, infused with elements from the thrash, power and hard rock genres. The bands fifth album 'Rapture', with it's visually striking and brightly colourful cover, is a metal masterpiece, and will send shockwaves through the world wide heavy metal scene. Launching the aural assault, is the one and a half minute, atmospheric instrumental 'Rapture', quickly followed by the bombastic and furious 'Flames Of Defiance'. With its ferocious "foot on the monitor" gallop and Genevieve's soaring Bruce Dickinson-esque vocal style, 'Rapture' (the album) is off to a stunning start.
'Wings Of Death' introduces the classic guitar sound from the eighties NWOBHM evolution to the album, and proceeds to bustle and barge its way frantically on. At over seven minutes in length, 'Wings Of Death' is the longest song on offer, yet there is also four more that clock in at over six minutes! The first single off the album 'Run', is a galloping slice of thundering heavy metal, opening with a soaring scream by Genevieve that is comparable to the legendary Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson. With its duelling guitars, galloping rhythm and anthemic style chorus, 'Run' is as perfect a traditional heavy metal offering as there can be. 'Serpent' has an intro that is epic and dramatic, building the atmosphere to a deafening crescendo, with a more melodic style of metal taking front and centre. Pulsating and pounding, 'Serpent' stomps heavily as it strides on. The ferocity of mid eighties Metallica storms into view with the frantically fierce 'Parasite'. Planting its feet firmly in the thrash metal genre, 'Parasite' turns the intensity and energy levels up to the max, with Genevieve delivering an aggression fuelled and fiery vocal performance. Heavy metal of the traditional variety marches majestically forward with the infectious and galloping 'Breathe', complete with the most addictive and sing a long able chorus on offer.
The album has a play time of fifty four minutes - plenty of time to enjoy and be amazed at the musicianship of the band, and wonder how in the hell Temtris are not performing at the highest level on a world wide scale. The versatility of the band shows its mettle with the emotion filled, power ballad styled 'Carry You'. Too heavy for lighters in the air or even swaying from side to side, 'Carry You' has a superb and delightfully stunning vocal performance, as soaring and powerful as anything that Bruce Dickinson has in his armoury. Yes, that's right, I have compared Genevieve to Bruce Dickinson three times now, and every time, totally deserving. And should Bruce decide to hang up his mic and retire from Iron Maiden, Mr Steve Harris and the rest of the band could adopt the approach taken by the makers of the British sci-fi drama series Doctor Who, and move forward with a female lead. Genevieve is an ideal replacement. But for now, Temtris is her calling, with 'Fight' bringing the Megadeth style of thrash metal to the album. A fiercely ferocious mid tempo aggressive stomp, 'Fight' hits harder than a Chuck Norris punch, and will leave you battered and bruised. It is an old saying and one of the truest ever, but "all good things come to an end", and so does this album. The final song on offer is a perfect ending to a perfect album. 'Rise Of Dawn' brings the sounds of Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeth together for a superb foray of the best heavy metal you're ever likely to hear for some time. Temtris are a band performing at their very best, and have delivered a stunning album that I highly recommend.
Overall, a sensational album chock full of barn storming heavy metal, with a perfect mix of aggression and passion, 'Rapture' is superb.
