Enter The Asylum |
||||||
Temtris are a female fronted heavy metal band from Australia formed in 1999 releasing their debut album in 2003. Two further albums followed in 2007 and 2014 with their fourth album, 'Enter The Asylum' due for release in the summer of 2016.
From the moment you press play and 'R.A.M.' begins its chilling, almost haunting ramble, building into a crescendo, you get the feeling something special is about to explode from your speakers. And you'd be right as 'Enter The Asylum' (the album) gets underway with 'Enter The Asylum' (the song). Rocking as hard as Judas Priest and pounding as hard as Iron Maiden, 'Enter The Asylum' is melodic heavy metal at its best. With roaring, soaring vocals and an infectious rhythm that will have you banging your head in appreciation. And boy, when the guitar solo kicks in, just awesome. 'Mind Games' ups the tempo and intensity as it gallops along at a furious pace. Temtris know how to please their legions of fans. You will be forgiven for thinking you have just entered a church as 'The Summoning' gets underway with a brilliant "church sounding" intro. Mid tempo and heavy, 'The Summoning' is a mean song with a thumping rhythm.
The vocal range of singer Genevieve Rodda is far reaching and her delivery can be fierce, angry and melodic. 'Break The Skin' displays this range to its full, opening with a low sung, sat around the campfire story telling style and building into a style that combines the operatic nature of Bruce Dickinson (singer Iron Maiden) and the bold brash Rob Halford (singer Judas Priest). As for the song itself, 'Break The Skin' is a chugging, foot stomping, in your face thump. With a dramatic turn of pace 'Darkness Falling' rockets in and blazes a trail of blistering guitars, galloping rhythms and aggressive, venomous vocals. Thunderous and thumping 'Too Deep' hits so hard that walls will crumble and floors will crack. No vocals, but 'Too Deep' doesn't need them, it is such a good song. With a buzzing guitar sound reminiscent of the eighties NWOBHM sound, 'Empty Room' gets underway and settles into a tempo changing plod. Vocals soar with some near doom style riffing.
Pace returns in the shape of 'Nightstalker' as it rattles on at pace, a pace that resembles 'Ram It Down' era Judas Priest, with soaring vocals and a twin guitar attack that was so evident during the NWOBHM evolution. A scorching guitar solo to boot and 'Nightstalker' is one of the two highlights on the album. A mid tempo, very heavy chug and 'Seasons Of Decay' strides in and stomps all over the senses. The second highlight on the album is 'Lament'...no pace to it as it is a very powerful, power ballad with so much power it may cause an overload and blow a fuse. The vocals soar to a symphonic level that will shatter glass and make your ears bleed. Definitely lighters in the air, swinging from side to side waving your arms high, 'Lament' is beautifully sung and expertly played. It is a song fitting to end a live show with... And talking of end, the album ends with the pounding 'Phoenix', all chopping guitars and pulsating rhythms as it chugs and chops on its way to a conclusion.
Overall, hard rocking and melodic heavy metal, Temtris deliver head bangingly addictive songs that just ooze power and passion.
