Project Pain are a thrash metal band from the Netherlands formed in 2011, releasing four albums to date - 'I Have Sinned' (2012), 'Thrashed To Kill' (2015), 'Brothers In Blood' (2018), and 'Faster Disaster', released in 2022...
...featuring the bands trademark brutal savagery and scowling vocals! If you're a fan of fast paced and aggressive thrash ala Slayer and Kreator - then Project Pain are just the band for you. The Dutch thrashers have been releasing albums every three years since their debut in 2012...okay okay, it's now been four years since the bands last one, but the regularity these guys are churning out thrash metal is just incredible! 2018's 'Brothers In Blood' was the bands most brutally savage work to date - I say was, because 'Faster Disaster' ramps up the brutality to new heights, delivering snarling savagery with every song that thunders by. And talking of thunder - the opening salvo 'Val Kapot' is a rip roaring slice of thunderous thrash, lightning fast and extremely head bang-able. One of the most explosive starts to an album I've heard all year, Project Pain emphatically set their stall out! Firing on all cylinders, the Dutch metal machine storm on with 'Mean Metal Machine' - a very heavy march of fire and brimstone. And if you blend the likes of Exodus, Megadeth, and Testament together - you'd still need that little bit extra to get anywhere near the sound of Project Pain. The band fiercely starting to define their own sound.
A sound that is thunderous, fiery, and full of biblical force. 'Army From Hell' increases the pace from the previous song, the shredding guitars lacerating the sky. And the ferocity of the vocals is unbelievable - the bands lead singer Bauke Goudbeek snarling, scowling and spitting venom like never before, with the albums opening triple salvo simply breathless. What a way to celebrate ten years of thrashing hard - yes readers, Project Pain have only been around for a decade, but what a stunning impact the band have made. Relentless and uncompromising, the album romps on with 'Submerged' - maintaining the incredible intensity it began with. The band have not lifted their foot off the pedal for a single second, keeping the mosh pits in thrash metal heaven, with walls of death forming everywhere. Vocals now take a break for a moment, as Project Pain power forth with the instrumental 'Presto vs Metal' - although the barrage of savagery remains unrelenting. 'Presto vs Metal' is an intense and highly head bang-able instrumental, keeping the ferocity level as high as it was when the album began.
The title song 'Faster Disaster' is incredibly melodic compared to everything that has gone before - ha, just kidding! It's a rampant romp of intense thrash metal that'll keep your heads rocking back and forth, stretching your neck muscles to new limits. And despite the increasing pain, you just can't stop head banging. 'Cause the bands brand of thrash demands it, a seemingly invisible force preventing you from stopping. So strap in, hold on, and enjoy the ride - you can rest when the album finishes. Ferocity and harshness abounds with the thunderous 'Fields Of Death', picking up the baton and fiercely forging a devastating path across the land. I tell ya - there's only gonna be desolation and scorch marks left behind when Project Pain breeze through town. Did I just say breeze? I guess what I really meant to say was - hurtle through town like a tornado racing a hurricane trying to catch a tsunami! And for the first time since the album began, the band slow the pace to a mighty foot stomp, 'Feel The Pain' full of menace and sinister sounding vibes. The mid tempo march is much heavier than the heaviest thing you can imagine - and when the band break out into a sprint mid song...crikey!
Restoring blistering pace to the fore, Project Pain storm on with 'Dead Inside', a lightning quick Category 5 storm - liable to cause catastrophic damage, such as downed trees, demolished houses, and devastating blackouts! I have followed the band for many years now, and I can honestly say, this is the most ferocious they've ever been. Now usually, we mellow with age - but not these guys. Their levels of menace and aggression are just getting higher and higher! And I love it! The album clocks in at under forty minutes in length, replete with a sky high ferocity and a mighty menacing temperament, the best way to listen to 'Faster Disaster' (the album) is on constant repeat! The final song 'Die In Peace', is yet another fantastically fierce and fast paced thrash metal assault, bringing the album to a close with an incredible - and unbroken - intensity level. Have Project Pain forced themselves into pole position for the Album Of The Year title? Maybe, just maybe... But hang on a minute - what's that! A bonus song! Hell yea - forty seconds of utter ferocity...'F.Y.Y.F.' is a feisty gallop of in your face thrash, and is a comedic and refreshing glimpse of the band.
Overall, a blistering display of savage thrash metal from Dutch sensations Project Pain, 'Faster Disaster' is a terrific album.
