(expanded edition) | ||||||
Running Wild are a heavy/power metal band from Germany formed in 1979 by vocalist and guitarist Rock 'N' Rolf Kasparek - the sole remaining original band member. Throughout the bands forty year career, there have been eighteen studio albums, a plethora of E.P.'s and singles, a number of live albums, a few videos, and some compilation albums. The band are well known for their pirate imagery and lyrical themes, and at one point during the early part of their career (during the eighties), were once described as "Germany's answer to Iron Maiden"...
...and it was during this time, that Running Wild basically invented the pirate metal genre with the release of three (consecutive) albums - 'Under Jolly Roger' (1987), 'Port Royal' (1988), and 'Death Or Glory' (1989).
The release of these albums brought Running Wild to the attention of metal heads all over the world. With tours across Europe all sold out, the band documented these with the release of the live album 'Ready For Boarding' (1988), and the concert video 'Death Or Glory Tour - Live' (1989).
And now, over three decades after their release - 'Ready For Boarding' and 'Death Or Glory Tour - Live' have been combined to create an expanded edition of one, oops, two, of Running Wild's greatest moments.
The eighties are widely recognised as the greatest decade for heavy metal evolution, with bands such as Iron Maiden, Helloween, Metallica, and Slayer inventing styles of metal that have inspired and influenced generation after generation of metal bands. Running Wild, with their pirate metal imagery and themes, have also been a major influence on many generations of metal bands...
...and like the bands mentioned above, have enjoyed over forty years at the forefront of the worldwide metal scene. |
||||||
So, for anyone who has not seen or heard Running Wild perform live - this expanded edition of a classic is a quintessential listen. The band storm through every song with energy and passion, confirming exactly why they were, and indeed still are, an exciting live band.
Overall, a barnstorming double live album showing Running Wild at their devastating best.
