Twelve Boar (formerly XII Boar) are a metal band from the UK, releasing their first and second albums in 2015 and 2016 as XII Boar. 2017 sees the band dropping the Roman numerals from their name to become Twelve Boar, forging ahead with the release of their third album in three years. 'No Forgiveness' is a blend of metal and rock, fused with blues, all smothered in a flavour of Southern rock.
Twelve Boar are well known for their energetic and raucous live performances, and manage to recreate the same vibe in the studio. The catchy groove of album opener 'Steppin' Up' swaggers into view and foot stomps majestically on, featuring the instantly recognisable throaty and gravel edged vocal delivery of singer Tommy Hardrocks. Twelve Boar would not be out of place strutting their stuff in a saloon bar way out West in the USA. Guitar driven 'Golden Goose' is typical punchy Twelve Boar and features a rap...yep, I said rap... The band have never been afraid to experiment and dabble with different sounds and directions, 'Golden Goose' is a mix of rap and buzzing hard rock, and it works very well. 'The Curtain Call' picks up the intensity and is a more aggressive in your face romp. Foot tappingly and head bangingly addictive, 'The Curtain Call' is heavily influenced by one of the bands favourite artists, the iconic and legendary Lemmy (Motorhead).
The title song 'No Forgiveness' opens with a short twanging intro that would not be amiss in a Spanish bar, moving quickly to the Southern rock flavour, with a huge dash of the blues thrown in. 'No Forgiveness' is a slow, foot tapper of a thumping rhythm that will invoke slow dancing on the straw covered dance floor. Put your cowboy hat on, slap your thigh, and get up and dance... Rampant and raucous with a thrash metal feel, 'Elders From The Deep' races along at pace, proving that Twelve Boar can deliver more than just Southern rock infused with the blues. Head bangers will love 'Elders From The Deep', with its catchy groove based riff and powerful vocal delivery. Continuing the albums change of pace 'Snakes On A Lead' is riotous and can only be described as heavy metal rock 'n' roll. Catchy and infectious, Twelve Boar are having fun with this album, delivering smile inducing and happy feeling music to a world wide audience. If you already know the band, great, if you don't, you're in for a treat of colossal proportions as Twelve Boar continue their ascent to the top in sparkling fashion.
A heavy guitar riff welcomes the doom laden 'All The Heavy Griftin' to the fray. Soon changing pace, it becomes a mid tempo foot stomp. 'All The Heavy Griftin' delivers a catchy chorus break of ten rules of performing live, such as "Four for the rock, Five for the roll" . . . tongue in cheek maybe, cheesy possibly, but no matter what it is, 'All The Heavy Griftin' is a memorable and catchy rock anthem. A surely not moment crossed my mind when I saw 'Panama' among the track listing and hoped it wasn't a cover of the Van Halen classic, and thankfully, I was right. 'Panama' is a one minute twanging instrumental that leads into the final song, the raucous 'Hellspeed Truckin'. Jam packed with Southern rock style riffing and an insanely massive amount of infectiousness, 'Hellspeed Truckin' is a hard rocking, sharp edged driving anthem. A memorable end to a cracking album, proving that Twelve Boar are as focused and full of energy as they have always been.
Overall, a forceful and thunderous romp of heavy hard rock, with a huge amount of Southern rock influence, get ready to party as Twelve Boar rock the airways.
