F.E.A.R.

Thunder And Lightning are a power metal band from Germany formed in 2004. The band have released seven albums to date - 'Purity' (2008), 'Dimension' (2010), 'In Charge Of The Scythe' (2013), 'The Ages Will Turn' (2016), 'Demonicorn' (2019), 'Demonicovers' (2020), and 'F.E.A.R.', released in 2021.

Over the years, Thunder And Lightning have shared a stage with such greats as Grave Digger, Paragon, Pro-Pain, and Van Canto. The band combine traditional metal with their root power metal style, forging an aggressive yet melodic, highly infectious, and overly addictive sound. The new album features ten songs over forty five fast paced minutes, and will have your attention from the off - after the short tension filled spoken word intro sends a chill down your spine! Then 'Mother Me' comes crashing down like a wrecking ball, wreaking just as much havoc, and leaving only devastation - for 'Mother Me' is classic heavy/power metal. The immense force, the electric energy, and the raspy vocal of the bands singer lacerating the airways - Thunder And Lightning are back, and ferociously devouring the auditory senses of every metal head everywhere. Keeping the heavy/power metal flowing, 'Beyond The Mountain Of Death' foot stomps forth, and is actually heavier than the opening song. Yet none of the infectious nature of the bands sound is lost. The amount of melodious intent Thunder And Lightning put into everything they do is incredible - the band proving themselves to be one of the best, more recent German exports. And when I say recent, I'm talking about the last twenty years, 'cause as most people know, my history listening to metal and rock goes back just over forty years!

Blistering pace lights up the album, as Thunder And Lightning scorch the Earth with the ferocious 'The Devil's Wife'. The staggering speed coupled with the bands insane ability to remain highly melodic is amazing - 'The Devil's Wife' sending the mosh pits into an absolute fucking frenzy! Oh this is getting good. 'The Curse Of Elisa Lam' - which is the bands take on the mysterious death of the college student at the Cecil Hotel, Los Angeles in 2013. Lam's death has been ruled as "accidental drowning", after her body was found in a water tank. But to this day, nobody knows how she died or how her body got there. The curse part I guess, is due to the fact that the Cecil Hotel is notorious for housing serial killers, it may be haunted, and is even known as the "suicide hotel". The band maintain a menacing and highly frightening atmosphere as 'The Curse Of Elisa Lam' progresses on. A very well written and executed piece of mastery.

Maintaining the albums recent chilling turn, 'The Silent Twins' is heavily doom laden - think Black Sabbath at their most doomy - Thunder And Lightning swapping blistering power metal for a really heavy and slow foot stomp. The band are not afraid to stretch their musical, and writing boundaries, the subject matter of 'The Silent Twins' just as terrifying as 'The Curse Of Elisa Lam'. Featuring guest vocalist Klaus Dirks (Mob Rules), 'A Nation Of Fools' is a sprightly gallop of high velocity power metal - the band lifting the mood after too very deep and fear laden songs. The energy oozing from 'A Nation Of Fools' is just incredible, with the head bang ability off the fucking charts! Title song 'F.E.A.R.' is a glorious blend of galloping pace and mid tempo stomping, the mix of traditional, and power metal a fabulous sound - the band gaining a reputation as "a band that never disappoints". A sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with.

'R.A.E.F' - while it spells fear in reverse, is not actually the title song sung backwards! Although that would have been interesting to hear... It is the title songs faster second half. With red hot scorching pace, and a thrashy nature, 'R.A.E.F.' will delight the head bangers of the world, who are gonna be wrecking their necks trying to keep up with this one. Classic sounding European power metal rises to the surface with 'Death Of Innocence' parading its wares with majestic aplomb. Everything great about the power metal genre can be found here, from a band from the country that invented power metal. Talk about carrying the flag, and living up to a legacy - Thunder And Lightning are proudly doing both. And like the old saying "all good things come to an end", so does this album. The final song 'Time To Rise', is a departure from everything that has gone before - even to the extent of a folk metal influence mixed in with acoustic guitars and a mellow vocal performance. Have the band finished with a ballad? Yea sort of - there's also a hymn-like story telling call to arms feel about 'Time To Rise', but feel free to raise your lighters high in the air if you want to.

Overall, a thundering gallop of high and mid paced power metal, highly melodic, full of energy, and insanely infectious.
