Slice Of Life E.P. |
||||||
Thunder And Lightning are a power metal band from Germany formed in 2004 releasing their debut E.P. in 2005. The band released three albums over the next seven years and have just released their second E.P. 'Slice Of Life' in 2014.
The bombastic blast of power metal that is 'Man On The Wire' kicks this E.P. off in superb style. Fantastic guitar sound, strong vocals and an infectious rhythm are the order of the day as the song relentlessly races from riff to riff via a cracking screaming guitar solo. Echoes of the NWOBHM sound can clearly be heard too as the song lurches majestically on and on.
A foot stomping melodic rumble introduces 'Low Winter Sun' as it builds into a mid tempo, high energy, chunky riff laden rock song. Superbly strong vocals, sparkling guitar work and a relentless thump of a rhythm keep the song alive and chugging on and on with a catchy chorus and great guitar solo too. 'Journey Of The Damned' is an out and out traditional sounding heavy metal song, with mighty guitar riffs and an infectious chorus, all traits associated with British stalwarts Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. The guitar solo is amazing, the singing is sparkling, the chorus sing a long, in fact this is by far and away the best song on the E.P.
Well, i thought so until 'Thunder And Lightning' came flying out of the speakers! Majestic and anthemic, it rattles and rolls, with a sound similar to to the mighty Manowar. And just like Manowar, who are the masters of atmospheric anthemic heavy metal, the band excel themselves with their superb musicianship. What is there not to like about this song? Nothing, it has everything that fans of heavy metal drool over - superb rollicking rhythm, a guitar sound to die for, powerful clean vocals and an infectious, catchy sing a long vibe.
Overall, a superb slab of traditional heavy metal mixed with European power metal to create bombastic, anthemic, infectious rock songs.
