Thunder And Lightning are a power metal band from Germany formed in 2004 releasing their debut E.P. in 2005. The band released three albums over the next seven years with a second E.P. 'Slice Of Life', released in 2014. The bands fourth album, 'The Ages Will Turn', was released in 2016, with their fifth album 'Demonicorn' a 2019 release.

Three years have passed since Thunder And Lightning released the highly energetic 'The Ages Will Turn', and I'm very happy to report that they have returned with 'Demonicorn' - just as energetic, just as intense and just as fucking bombastic as its predecessor. With just eight songs over forty minutes, the album may be a little lightweight, but it's definitely a heavyweight with regards to the punching, pounding and pummelling that it dishes out. From the off 'Demonicorn' (the album) lands an almighty haymaker of a clout with the immense 'All Your Lies'. Fast, furious, aggressive, yet massively melodic, 'All Your Lies' is a fabulous opening salvo, confirming that Thunder And Lightning are back doing what they do best - delivering great "foot on the monitor" style heavy metal. A simply stunning start to their fifth album, Thunder And Lightning power on at full tilt with the title song 'Demonicorn'. A pulsating slice of traditional heavy metal, the chant style chorus is fucking amazing.

The majestic and more melodic side of the band takes front and centre with the shuddering 'Demmin'. Big riffing, punchy and bombastic, 'Demmin' has a powerful foot stomp of a chorus in stark contrast to the fast paced verses. Bringing a more mid tempo and regal feel to the album, 'The Temple Of Death' is an atmospheric and epic heavy foot stomp, and will trample all over you as it marches on by. Thunder And Lightning hail from the same country as legends Rage - and I would happily place them on a shelf together. Rage pioneered the heavy/power metal style that Thunder And Lightning are now expertly delivering. Talk about the student and their teacher scenario!! With an Iron Maiden style epic and cinematic flavour, 'God For A Day' is a glorious heavy hitting thunderstorm. As it progresses a turn of pace changes the entire ambience of the song to a relentless "foot on the monitor" gallop. And that chorus - just wow. The crowd in a live arena are gonna be screaming "god for a day" at the tops of their lungs.

Thunder And Lightning have become one of those reliable bands, one of those bands that never lets you down or disappoints you, giving you that unique confidence to buy any new release of theirs knowing it ain't gonna be a waste of money. And 'Demonicorn' (the album) is worth every Pound (or Euro) you spend. Thundering pace returns with full force in the mighty shape of the fast and furious 'Heaven's Gate'. A classic "foot on the monitor" romp, heads will be banging hard, with fists punching the air in ecstatic delight. And the delight just gets more ecstatic with the pummelling 'Salt To The Wounds'. Thunder And Lightning have concocted a magical formulae to produce outstanding heavy metal, and they're using a shit load of it. 'Salt To The Wounds' has the classic sing a long style chorus that metal fans all around the world absolutely crave. And we come hurtling to the final song on offer - 'Telltale Signs'. An up tempo, high velocity rampage, 'Telltale Signs' is everything Thunder And Lightning stand for - thundering heavy metal of the most infectious nature, guaranteed to make you feel good, happy and overjoyed. What a band, and what an album! Highly recommended.
