No Hay Vuelta Atras |
||||||
Destral are a heavy metal band from Spain formed in 2017, releasing their debut E.P. 'No Hay Vuelta Atras' in 2020.
Featuring a fast paced style of traditional heavy metal, Spanish newcomers Destral have in their hands, a cracking E.P. that is gonna turn heads wherever it is played. The pace and aggression of all five songs on offer is incredible - the E.P. launching with the title song 'No Hay Vuelta Atras', a fast and furious "foot on the monitor" styled romp. Fists will be raised high in the air in salute to a corker, a scorcher of an opener that will leave many listeners breathless, and many more open mouthed. Destral are a Spanish band, and sing in Spanish, and sadly I have no idea what they're singing about as Spanish is a language I do not speak. But heavy metal is a language I do speak, along with many millions around the world, with Destral proving, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that heavy metal is indeed a "universal language".
Powering on with 'Pirates', Destral show a clean pair of heels and a huge amount of haste. 'Pirates' is rockier than the previous song, more bombastic and definitely more punchy. This is the glorious sound of traditional heavy metal at its very best. Heavy metal of this nature may be over four decades old, but boy oh boy it's just as strong and addictive as it has ever been. Heavy metal is here to stay - and with bands like Destral pumping out anthems such as 'Pirates', heavy metal is in very good hands. 'Pajaros De Hierro' picks up the pace and introduces the guitar sound of the iconic NWOBHM. Fast paced and infectious, 'Pajaros De Hierro' is a corker, and deserves a manic mosh pit of furiously head banging metal heads. With only five songs on offer, Destral have done a fucking great job of impressing...
...and with two songs remaining, there is still more time to impress further. 'Lobos' opens up in a much more mellow fashion, threatening to become an all out power ballad - wrong! All hell breaks fucking loose in just under a minute, with 'Lobos' becoming the heaviest offering on the E.P. - swinging a baseball bat with such ferocity, not only is it a home run, but it's the hardest hit...ever! 'Lobos' is astonishing, the amount of savage brutality just enough not to warrant a visit from the local police on a charge of GBH... The fifth and final song on the E.P. is incredibly fast and resorts to power metal traits to push it on at speed. 'Venganza' is a superb blast of metal, with a highly infectious and sing a long able (if you know Spanish) chorus. A simply amazing twenty one minutes of traditional heavy metal - this is one of the best debut releases I've heard in a while, and I can't wait to hear more...
Overall, a ferocious and fast paced electrically charged romp of heavy metal, infectious, addictive and very, very good.
