Thermit are a thrash metal band from Poland formed in 2009 releasing their debut E.P. in 2013 and their first full length album in 2016.
Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of metal powder, fuel and metal oxide and when heated produces an exothermic reaction and is therefore used in demolition and incendiary weapons. Thermit, the band, possess all the above in abundance and the opening song off their debut album is bursting with explosive energy and raw brutality. 'Lady Flame' is a barrage of heavy riffing and thunderous rhythms, all played at a blistering pace. 'Zombie Lover' (taken from their previous release, 'Encephalopathy') is razor sharp edged thrash metal with screaming guitars and rampant rhythms. At over six minutes in length, it is a rollercoaster of raw, high energy thrash metal. With a buzzing opening guitar riff, 'Perfect plan' strides in and aggressively rages on. The vocal delivery is venomous and attitude laden with the chopping guitars wielding their way through riff after riff. A superb opening three songs.
'Smoke & Soot' stomps into life, sounding like the attitude laden style of Pantera. With heavy guitars and an aggressive, deep gravelled, bordering on the death metal grunt, vocal style 'Smoke & Soot' is of a slower pace but so heavy it will crush anything that is foolish enough to stand in its way. The intriguingly titled 'The Story About Bird & Snake' is a three minute bass guitar led instrumental that leads into the eight minute plus 'Fairyland'. With a much slower opening, 'Fairyland' may tempt you to reach for your lighters to hold in the air, but when the vocals begin and the buzzing guitars take over, you realise this is no where near ballad territory. A meandering and slow foot stomp, 'Fairyland' is a slow burner that builds the tension and atmosphere until midway through when a change in rhythm sees it take on a chugging, heavy foot stomping style. 'Fairyland' really is a song of two halves.
Pace and power return in glorious style with the rampant 'The Last Meal Of The King'. Screaming guitars lead the way as 'The Last Meal Of The King' is a furious flurry of old school style thrash metal. Get those hands in the air and bang your heads... Chopping and chugging into life, 'Louise' is a mid tempo foot stomp with a glorious guitar riff, a higher pitched vocal delivery and a hugely melodic mid section. 'Mr Two-Face' picks up the pace once again and delivers the kind of infectious and addictive thrash metal that echoes legends Testament, Annihilator and Heathen. Thermit have produced a very good album for their first full length effort and it is brought to a close by the title song 'Saints'. Rampant and raucous, full of energy and some blistering guitar work, 'Saints' ends the album as it began, with an electrifying and explosive burst of energy.
Overall, aggressive, highly energetic and raucous thrash metal with gravel edged vocals, thunderous rhythms and top notch guitar work.
