Encephalopathy |
||||||
Thermit are a thrash metal band from Poland formed in 2009 releasing their debut E.P. in 2013.
Encephalopathy opens with 'Zombie Lover', a razor sharp edged sound with screaming guitars, thunderous rhythms and a vocal style not too dissimilar to Mille Petrozza (Kreator). At over six minutes in length, it is a rollercoaster of raw, high energy thrash metal. An Iron Maiden style instrumental opening introduces 'Now You See', which then takes off in a blaze of drums and blazing guitars. The vocals are strong and are a mix of the styles of Brian Johnson (AC/DC), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and the aforementioned Mille Petrozza (Kreator).
An exquisite guitar passage kicks 'Second' into life as it chugs away in foot stomping fashion. Superb guitar work and a relentless rhythm will have you banging your head in appreciation. The opening to 'Other Man' is dark and sinister, almost heading along the doom metal path, but no. As soon it picks up pace it races off and is an out and out thrash metal song. A cracking slow chug, almost Pantera like in its groove but with a much harder edge, swings 'Holy Bomb' into life, with thunderous rhythms and a great screaming guitar solo to end.
Closing the E.P. is a sparkling tribute to Metallica, by way of a ten minute plus medley of old and newer Metallica songs. I will not spoil the surprise by listing the songs on show, but I will tell you that it is a wonderfully crafted and executed song, and am sure that the mighty Metallica would be proud.
Overall, hard edged, high energy and raw thrash metal with gravelly, throaty vocals, thunderous rhythms and excellent guitar work.
