Solitary are a thrash metal band from the UK formed in 1994 who released their first demo in 1995 quickly followed by a second in 1996. Over the next twenty years the band have gone on to release an E.P., two studio albums and one live album. 2017 will see the release of the bands third full length album 'The Diseased Heart Of Society'.    
             
Powerful, aggressive and savage is one way I would describe great thrash metal, with albums such as 'Master Of Puppets' (1986 release by Metallica) and 'Breaking The Silence' (1987 release by Heathen) two superb examples that set the thrash metal genre alight, during its evolutionary stage in the mid eighties. Just a couple of years prior to these releases, was born Solitary, a no frills, in your face, thrash metal band. Over their twenty year career, they have delivered relentless and aggressively powerful thrash metal and as a live act, their on stage passion and energy levels are out of this world. So it comes as no surprise that the bands third album, 'The Diseased Heart Of Society' is an absolute belter that is gonna give you goose bumps. From the moment the album begins with its acoustically and atmospherically charged intro 'Blackened Skies' building into a crescendo as it leads into 'Wait', you are hit hard with a savage barrage of riffing that pummels the senses. The throaty, rasping vocals are delivered with venom and the energy level is off the scale.    
             
The blistering pace set by the opening salvo is increased as 'Trigger Point Atrocity' thunders into sight and is a raging storm of aggression. Not for the faint of heart, this album is gonna viciously punch and kick you into next week with its ferocity. Relentless like a jack hammer smashing concrete, 'Anthem Of Regret' is a frenetic foot stomp of very heavy guitars and raging rhythms that will have you head banging furiously. The guitar solos scream and screech, the menacing vocals come across as scary and Solitary are delivering a power house of a thrash metal album. Scorching into life on the crest of a savage riff and some thunderous drumming, 'Architects Of Shame' is brutal as it thunders along at high speed. The furious and fast pace of the album is glorious and is competing strongly with recent releases by Kreator, Flotsam And Jetsam and Testament for the title of the "most savage barrage of thrash".    
             
The title song 'The Diseased Heart Of Society' is one of the heaviest mid tempo thrash metal songs you will hear this year. The hard head banging you will be doing may just force you into a visit to the local hospital to pick up a neck brace...but remember to take it off as the breath taking pace of 'Unidentified' requires some of the quickest and most manic head banging ever. 'Unidentified' may be less than three minutes in length but with the outstanding screech of a superb guitar solo, is the best song on the album. With three more songs still left to run, I hope you have plenty of energy left because the final three song barrage is explosive. 'The Words Define' is fast and furious with venomous vocals, 'The Edge Of Violence' is high velocity, high speed thrash that is simply breath taking and if your neck is not hurting by now, you haven't been head banging hard enough. The final song rattles into life and is a relentless chug of brutal riffs and thundering rhythms. In 1986, it took Slayer just twenty eight minutes to change the face of thrash metal forever with 'Reign In Blood' ... Solitary may have just done the same in thirty three minutes.    
             
Overall, a fast and ferocious thrash metal assault that requires furious head banging, Solitary have delivered a heart racing, adrenalin pumping, first class album.
