Apoptose

Science Of Disorder are a death metal band from Switzerland, originally formed in 1989 under the name Soulless, releasing two albums, in 1998 and 2002. The band changed their name in 2011 to become Science Of Disorder, releasing 'Heart, Blood And Tears...' as their debut album. The bands sophomore album 'Private Hell' was released in 2018, with third album 'Apoptose' a 2022 release.

Featuring eleven songs across fifty minutes, Science Of Disorder's new album is full of dark and heavy vibes, the bands soundscape incorporating many other styles into their root death metal sound - styles such as doom, thrash, metalcore, and even a little traditional heavy metal too! Album opener 'Kotlas Connection' is a knuckle dragging doom laden crawl crossed with mild mannered death metal vocals. The slumber with which 'Kotlas Connection' moves is so heavy and slow it's like an anticipation fuelled long wind up that leads into the energetic and pulsating 'Rabid Dog'. More like the bands root sound 'Rabid Dog' is a fierce fury of traditional heavy metal mixed with death and doom. And the throaty growled vocals feature so much menace they're quite scary!

With tempo and pace changes galore, 'Apoptose' moves stealthily on with the pounding 'Hear Us' - picking up a little speed to become a crescendo of thrash come death metal. Think anything Brazilian singer, songwriter and guitarist Max Cavalera has put his name too, and you'll have the kind of vibe Science Of Disorder have gone for here. And if you're looking for an album of speedy high velocity metal, then you better look somewhere else. For 'Des Reves Noirs' keeps the album at a slow and heavy pace, constantly mixing death and doom to create an atmosphere of fear. Listeners of a weak constitution may wanna take refuge in a safe place, for the band are unrelenting in their frightening approach. In fact, frightening pace lights up the night sky with the explosive 'The Hiding' foraging a fast and furious arc of aggression. And for the first time since the album began, the head bangers of the world can rock their heads back and forth at break neck speed.

The blistering pace didn't last for too long though, the album taking on a groove metal vibe with the mid tempo 'Crawling Chaos'. Incorporating a kind of power driven heavy metal feel, Science Of Disorder continue to mash metal styles together to create a multi layered sound that will attract fans from a multitude of metal genres - primarily death, doom, and thrash. But 'Maiden, 'Priest, and Motorhead fans will also find something here to peak their interest. Featuring guest vocalist Julien Truchan - from French death metallers Benighted - 'Grind Me' is all out death metal to satisfy the death metal purists. Yet the band still manage to stamp their own unique metal mix upon 'Grind Me', and that includes a little terror too! And with 'There Is No Sound' taking the album back in the direction of doom, Science Of Disorder remain at the heaviest end of the metal spectrum, devastating the senses with a hammering of the most brutal kind! For listeners not used to this kind of overwhelming heaviness - you may wanna place an order for some painkillers! You may just need 'em!

And just like the unwavering regularity of night following day, you just know there's gonna be more death and doom to come from this album - and you'd not be wrong! 'Redemption' hitting the ground with a heavier groove than the one heard earlier, with the vocals taking on a terrifying feel. Pace and tempo changes keep the listener guessing as to which direction 'Redemption' will take next, the varied aural assault as engaging as anything heard so far. 'Confirmation Bias' is a one minute tension fuelled and eerie instrumental leading to the albums final song - the seven minute 'Hollow Games'. Full of thunder, fire and brimstone, 'Hollow Games' has energy in abundance and a cracking groove that is just so damn infectious!

Overall, an immense avalanche of death, doom, and thrash metal, 'Apoptose' is a devastating journey of menace and aggression.
