Live Werewolves (DVD) |
||||||
Power And Glory are a heavy metal band from Argentina formed by guitarist Hernan Chaves, releasing their debut album 'The Last Rebel' in 2019, sophomore album 'Road Werewolves' in 2022, and the 'Live Werewolves' DVD following hot on its heels...
...featuring ten songs recorded between 9th and 16th December 2022, at Gier Music Club, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Eight of the ten songs on show are taken from the bands sophomore album 'Road Werewolves', with the other two cover versions of classic cuts from two legendary heavy metal bands - more on those in a moment!
Cause first - the band live on stage, ooze as much if not more energy than the album did! And from the multi-cam footage, the club is a smaller venue with a small stage - but the band are giving it their all, performing with passion and having a great fucking time! And that's reflected in the crowd - you can see it! And hear it! Everyone is smiling, jumping or head banging - the atmosphere seemingly electric. with an intensity that must be magical. God I wish I was there! But sadly it was not to be - yet thankfully, the band had the show recorded, and released, on DVD!
And what a show, the band opening with the same one-two as the album - the intro 'Mayhem', and the blistering speedster 'Freedom Rider'. The energy level is incredible, the band storming on with the traditional metaller 'Give Me Speed', and the iconic gallop of "foot on the monitor" metal legends Iron Maiden. The anthemic 'No Guts No Glory' is next - and I remember writing in my review that the song had a "chorus so chant-able, you'll all be screaming "no guts no glory" after just the one listen - what an in-concert sing a long moment that'll be!" And I was right! It is - everyone in the club singing along. Simply fantastic stuff!
The first of two covers, is a classic from German heavy metal band Accept - 'Living For Tonite', taken from the bands 1985 album 'Metal Heart'. And true to the original, Power And Glory ooze the power loaded feel perfectly. An old school metal double follows - the melodious 'Sharp As Steel' and the feisty 'Street Metal'. Both are traditional metal sounding songs of the highest quality, with 'Street Metal' one of my favourites off the album. And after hearing it played live - nothing's changed, it's still a favourite.
The second cover also features a guest musician - bass player Gus Feanor from the Argentinian metal band Feanor. And the cover! 'Kings Of Metal' by Manowar, taken from the bands sixth album of the same name released in 1988. And what a fantastic job Power And Glory do too - their version sounding just as punchy and powerful as the original. Bringing the concert to a close, the band perform the highly melodic title song off their latest album 'Road Werewolves' - replete with the power driven metal style of British icons Judas Priest. And finally, the foot stomping 'Danger' - ending forty minutes of fast and furious heavy metal, with the levels of energy and head bang ability off the fucking charts. What a performance - and all recorded and released on DVD for our viewing pleasure.
Overall, an energetic and lively performance, showing a band delivering the goods with passion to a baying crowd.
