Emergence

Naitaka are a thrash metal band from Canada formed in 2019 releasing their debut E.P. 'Naitaka' in 2021. Fronted by Mortillery vocalist Cara McCutchen, Naitaka are a ferocious blend of thrash and melodic death metal, with the bands debut full length album 'Emergence' (released in 2023), a forty five minute eleven song onslaught of immense sonic savagery.

And if you thought the bands E.P. was aggressive - get ready for an aggression level that stretches to new heights! The band are in devastating mood, launching the new album with 'Limestone Burial', and a "traditional metal scream" from Cara, good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as iconic singers Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden). Naitaka are at full tilt here, 'Limestone Burial' wreaking havoc with every stride it takes - the terrifying howls and growls of Cara sending shivers down the spine, with some listeners diving for cover behind the couch! But safety is not guaranteed, for Naitaka are gonna get you, no matter how far you run for cover! Just see the blood begin to flow as the band lacerate the skies with brutal guitars - 'The Missing' crashing in with as much devastation as the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs! Naitaka really are a savage beast of a band, roaring with venom and vicious intent, 'The Missing' featuring some truly frightening vocals - and some clean ones too! Yes that's right, Cara is equally adept at howls and growls as well as the traditional clean metal ones too.

And there's the traditional metal scream again - even better than earlier! 'Suffocation Effervesce' lurching forth with all the hallmarks of old school, proceeding to increase in speed and brutality to become a melodic death come thrash metal rampage. The band are in demonic form, scaring the bejesus out of every listener, fan and follower - with many suffering cold sweats and panic attacks. The band are relentless in their aggression fuelled frenzy - 'Forbidden Dimension' a blistering high velocity roller coaster to scare the shit out of everyone! Yet there's so much melodious intent woven into 'Forbidden Dimension', it's gonna sew you up after it tears you apart - and then buy you some flowers! Which are gonna be menacingly ripped to pieces by the high speed 'Ravenscrag'. And its punk style arrogance, the band very much in your face, howling and scowling loudly! What a breath taking first half...

...the second half storming into life with 'Emergence Of The Skinwalker, Pt.1', featuring the traditional heavy metal guitar sound - with all hell breaking loose soon after, 'Emergence Of The Skinwalker, Pt.1' changing through the gears to become a fast paced assault of red hot thrash! The speed is phenomenal, the savagery superb, and the head bang ability out of this world - 'The Summoning' a forty five second stroll that leads into 'Emergence Of The Skinwalker, Pt.2', and the most "heavy metal" of all the songs heard so far. Yes it's still very heavy with some harsh vocals, but 'Emergence Of The Skinwalker Pt.2' is primarily rooted in the heavy metal genre.

Unlike 'Vacant Cache', which drops the album back firmly into thrash metal territory, the speed increasing along with the intensity. Since the album began, Naitaka have kept the pedal consistently pressed to the metal, roaring on with authority and aplomb. And seemingly, nothing can stop them either - 'Malevolent Storm' the next ferocious foray. Albeit at the mid tempo foot stomping pace of thrash as favoured by pioneering icons Megadeth - Naitaka willing to visit every corner of the thrash metal genre. Which is awesome in my eyes, and ears, 'cause of the sheer variety on offer. Kudos Naitaka, kudos. And bringing a barnstorming album to a close, the band roar one last time - 'Hatchet Through Heartwood' opening with elegance and poise, portraying an epic atmosphere, setting up the listener to be bombarded with the bands regular blend of heavy hitting thrash. A cracking end to what has been a really, really good album.

Overall, a blistering barrage of thrash come melodic death come traditional heavy metal.
