Iron Lotus |
||||||
NACARBIDE are a female fronted heavy metal band from Thailand formed in 2016, releasing their debut album 'Lots Of Eyes' in 2017. The band released the 'Resolution' E.P. in 2019, with their second full length album 'Iron Lotus' a 2020 release.
Half the new album is made up by all five songs from last years 'Resolution' E.P. making the album ten songs long of heavy hitting heavy metal bordering on the thrash metal genre. NACARBIDE may only have been in existence for four years but are quickly making their presence felt in the heavy metal scene. The bands new album is gonna appeal to fans of both thrash, and the traditional style of heavy metal - the album opening with the title song 'Iron Lotus'. A furious and quite frankly explosive opener, 'Iron Lotus' (the song) motors along at high velocity, banging heads wherever it roams by. A classic sounding slice of traditional heavy metal with all the power of the space shuttle blasting off into space. A glorious opening that gets even more glorious with the faster paced, hugely NWOBHM sounding 'Run'. The bands singer Hitomi sounding great with a terrific raspy vocal performance. 'Run' is gonna have heads nodding back and forth at an extreme rate as it rockets on by.
With such an explosive opening, is there gonna be enough fuel to keep it going? Fuck yes is the answer - with 'Undisclosed' a more melodic offering, harking back to the mid eighties with its massive NWOBHM influenced rhythm. Get those feet on the monitor as 'Undisclosed' trundles by at a high rate of knots. And 'Resolution' does a lot more than just trundle. It is a heavy hitting gallop that smacks you around the head. The pace, power and fiery nature of the album is incredible - a definite increase in intensity too from the bands debut album three years ago. 'Dynamis' is a one minute instrumental that drops the album fairly and squarely into the thrash metal genre, followed by the blistering 'Human Race', a blend of traditional heavy metal and power metal. 'Human Race' actually stands astride the borders of both genres, standing proud and very, very tall.
In fact, NACARBIDE can stand very tall and be proud of what is becoming a very good album. Melodic heavy metal rises high once more with the pounding 'Eye Of The Hawk'. Another "foot on the monitor" NWOBHM inspired slab of outstanding heavy metal, 'Iron Lotus' is now turning into a great album. And to be honest with you right now, I have listened to the whole album already and the final three songs can be summed up in just one word - wow! The first of the closing triple 'Zense no Yakusoku' is a thrash metal infused melodic metal monster. Highly infectious and head bang able to the max, the chorus break is a phenomenally addictive and catchy rumble. And then comes the best song on the album by the widest country mile. 'Advancement' comes hurtling at you directly from the thrash metal genre, trampling all over you with brute force. Cuts and bruises will be inflicted by the savage barrage that 'Advancement' dishes out. Full riot gear is advised to be worn, in the hope that a trip to the local A&E can be avoided. And to the albums final hurrah - 'Dear Friend'. A colossal high speed rampage, 'Dear Friend' is full on, flat out, pounding heavy metal of the highest order, and a fucking fantastic end to a great album. NACARBIDE are most definitely gonna turn heads with this release.
Overall, a fiery battering of NWOBHM inspired heavy metal with thrash leanings and a smattering of the melodic, 'Iron Lotus' is a great album.
