Reckoning |

Hell Fire are a heavy metal band from the USA formed in 2010, releasing four albums to date - 'Metal Masses' (2016), 'Free Again' (2017), 'Mania' (2019), and 'Reckoning' a 2022 release.
Hell Fire quickly rose to the upper echelons of the worldwide heavy metal scene with the release of (their first) three albums in less than four years! And who's to say it wouldn't have been four in five, if it were not for COVID19, the pandemic of 2020 that basically shut down the world for two years! Hell Fire, like many other bands, used the lockdown and isolation time very wisely, writing what would become the best album of their career - 'Reckoning' a thunderous amalgamation of thrash and traditional heavy metal. Launching the eleven songs across a furiously fast paced forty four minutes, is the title song 'Reckoning' - opening with an atmospheric guitar stroll that would adorn any Iron Maiden song! And after a minute when 'Reckoning' (the song) comes to life - a thundering thrash tinged traditional metal romp. Hell Fire are back - and doing what they do best...delivering very heavy, heavy metal. And picking up the pace, 'Medieval Cowboys' is an all out rampage of unabashed and unadulterated heavy metal. The kind you love to furiously head bang to and punch the air in delight. Hell Fire have been honing their craft over the last six years, building an arsenal of firepower to match any of metals leading lights.
Without stopping for breath, the band roar on with the "foot on the monitor" metaller 'It Ends Tonight'. Heavier than either of the opening two songs, 'It Ends Tonight' shares traits with both traditional metal and thrash, attracting fans of both styles. What a prospect a Hell Fire concert is! It's gonna be awesome - the energy, the power, the thundering metal. What an occasion not to be missed. Be sure to keep an eye out for when the band next tour! Scorching pace lights up the album in the shape of the red hot 'Thrill Of The Chase' - a thunderous rampage of full on heavy metal. The energy and sheer intensity of the album so far is incredible. Hell Fire more than living up to their previous albums, and reinforcing their reputation as a great metal band. And with no let up in the relentless metal onslaught, the band power on with the thrashiest song heard so far - 'Addicted To Violence', a crushing crescendo of heaviness to keep the moshers violently head banging.
Hell Fire proudly stand on the bridge between two of the greatest metal genres ever - thrash and traditional heavy metal. Although the band keep mixing things up - a mellow intro to 'Tortuga Nights' showing the bands more melodious side. And as for 'Tortuga Nights' as a whole...the first real mid paced mid tempo song on offer. Yet the albums overall intensity remains intact, the band not letting listeners off the hook for a single second. Pace makes an immediate and emphatic return to the album as 'Eye For An Eye' storms on, increasing the heaviness yet retaining the melodic edge that Hell Fire sew into every song they write. It's amazing the impact the band have made in just a few short years - six to be exact! Majestic and melodious, 'Many Worlds' is a crushing foot on the monitor gallop of old school metal, replete with Hell Fire's incredible injection of thrash. German power metallers Rage are masters of adding a thrash influence to their root power metal sound, with Hell Fire proving they are just as masterful at adding a thrash influence to their root traditional metal sound.
And with a phenomenal increase in pace, purpose and urgency, 'Nowhere Fast' takes off like a rocket! Blistering speed takes centre stage as Hell Fire firmly press the pedal to the metal and thunder along the metal highway at full velocity. What an absolute corker! At less than three minutes in length, 'A Dying Moon' is the shortest song on offer, and is an err, ahem, ballad! And as regular readers are aware, I'm of the opinion that ballads are for rock albums and not metal ones! But I'm willing to give Hell Fire a pass on this one for three reasons - it's short, the band have a great back catalogue, and their new album is a cracker! The band bringing the album to a close with the feisty 'The Executioner'. A staggering swagger of the bands root thrash influenced traditional heavy metal sound, 'The Executioner' is hugely melodic, and ends Hell Fire's fourth album in breath taking style.
Overall, a thundering album of intense heavy metal blended with thrash nuances, Hell Fire have delivered their best album to date.
