Misleading Evil

Hazzerd are a thrash metal band from Canada formed in 2013, originally forming in 2012 under the name Forsaken, changing it to Hazzard X the following year, to eventually become Hazzerd, and releasing their 'Victimize The Innocent' E.P. in 2014. Line-up changes dogged the band for a couple of years, stabilising in 2017, with the band recording and releasing their full length debut album 'Misleading Evil'.

You know those albums that come out of nowhere and smack you so hard you don't know which day of the week it is? Well, the debut album from Canadian thrashers Hazzerd is one such album. My knowledge of thrash metal bands from Canada is limited, obviously the big bands such as Piledriver, VoiVod, Exciter and Annihilator, along with Mortillery, Infrared, Harlott, Terrifier and am sure many many more... Hazzerd are a new band to add to the list, with their debut album a blistering forty minutes of fast paced and aggressive thrash. From the moment the album begins, a furiously fierce aural assault is unleashed. 'The Tendencies Of A Madman' is in your face and raw thrash, nodding its head towards the legendary "Bay Area" thrash sound from the early to mid eighties. Imagine the likes of Exodus, Slayer and Nuclear Assault meshing their sound together...Hazzerd is the outcome. 'Absolute Destruction' keeps the foot hard down on the pedal, scorching a blazing trail as it scurries across the land. Violent head banging is the only style that can accompany thrash metal of this nature.

A breath taking opening double salvo gets more explosive with the rampant and raucous 'The Execution Of The Damned'. If your neck is beginning to feel sore from all the head banging, you only have yourself to blame for not warming up your muscles properly before pressing the play button... The title song of the album, 'Misleading Evil' is a seven minute plus instrumental, Featuring musical influences from the likes of Metallica and Slayer, 'Misleading Evil' is an infectious listen, full of pace changes and superb guitar passages to keep you hooked from start 'til finish. Thunderous and raging like a wild storm, 'Fallen' has some of the best guitar shredding on the album. Just like the duelling weapon rapier, 'Fallen' cuts and thrusts savagely, with a quickness and nimbleness that the early duellists and rapier pioneers from the 16th century would be proud of.

Unbelievably, the pace of the album quickens with the blistering 'Under The Influence'. Threatening to break the world land speed record, 'Under The Influence' is fast, furious, fierce and damn catchy. Fuck me it flies like a speeding bullet, but also has that thrash metal finesse that Metallica brought to the genre during the mid eighties. Lyrically (and not surprisingly), 'Under The Influence' is about drinking, being drunk and dealing with hang overs, similar to what German thrash metal band Tankard have sang about for over thirty years! 'Apocalypse Dawn' is the shortest song on offer, chiming in at under four minutes, yet is a savage barrage of brutality. Classic sounding, 'Apocalypse Dawn' is thrash metal as it should be; fast, aggressive and in your face. 'Road To Nowhere' brings an album of breathlessness to an end, with its intro sounding like it belongs on a 1984 Metallica album... 'Road To Nowhere' is a much more melodic offering than anything else on the album, showing maturity from the band to go beyond just out and out thrash metal savagery.

Overall, a breath taking and exhilarating ride of fast paced and brutal thrash metal, guaranteed to invoke violent head banging wherever it is played.
