Apokalyps

Defiatory are a thrash metal band from Sweden formed in 2015, releasing their debut album 'Extinct' in 2016. Featuring a massive Bay Area thrash influence, the bands sophomore album 'Hades Rising' was released in 2018, and was an extremely fast paced journey of thrash. The bands third album 'Apokalyps', featuring a more menacing atmosphere than previously heard, was released in 2022.

Nine songs across a scorching thirty five minutes awaits anyone brave enough to press play on Defiatory's new album. For 'Apokalyps' is a relentless and ruthless thrash metal assault. Every song on offer will shake the ground, cracking walls and crumbling buildings! The assault begins with (presumably the title song) 'Apocalypse' - a fiery and fierce rush of all out thrash metal. The pace is incredible with an absolutely grooving riff! And with the addition of bold and brutal vocals, 'Apocalypse' is a furious opening salvo, setting the tone and mood for what is to come. And what is to come is the faster paced 'Only War' - blazing a scorching trail across the land. Aggression levels go through the roof as 'Only War' speeds forth, causing heads to vigorously nod back and forth, with mosh pits a sweaty frenzy of jumping metal heads! With no let up in the bruising intensity of the opening double, the band power on with the blistering 'Belligerent And Hostile' - a savage cacophony of thrash delivered at hyper speed! What a start! What a band! And what a follow-up to 'Hades Rising'!

And for the first time, Defiatory slow the pace, as 'Into The Unknown' begins its brutal foot stomp. Although, lightning pace didn't stay away for too long, as the band progress to change gears and rocket off at high velocity. The intensity level is absolutely incredible, the band forging ahead with their distinctive sound - a mix of raw power and blistering thrash laden with savage aggression. None more so than the phenomenal 'No Place To Hide' - and literally, there is no place to hide from the crushing thrash that Defiatory are delivering. Wherever you seek shelter the band will find you and batter you senseless with a brand of thrash that would make the offspring of a Slayer, Megadeth, and Lamb Of God sexual experiment seem tame! Defiatory are aggressive, in your face, and brutality savage, yet are willing to expand their horizons beyond just thrash. For 'Knives' has a glorious traditional metal feel surrounding it. Yes the rough and tough vocals are still present, as is the thunderous rhythm, but boy do the guitars buzz like it's the nineteen eighties! The glorious sound of the NWOBHM is fused into the bands thrash metal roots, bringing their sound to a much wider audience than just thrash metallers.

However, the bands sound expansion did not last too long - the album diving straight back into pure thrash with the blazing 'Let Them Burn'. Fast paced and furiously aggressive, 'Let Them Burn' is a searing rampage of savage thrash, Defiatory firing on all cylinders as they sprint on to the songs conclusion. The searing rampage maintains its strength and vigour with the pummelling 'Assassinate' - showing just a little of the bands "no fear" approach to including a nod to the traditional metal genre. Four years ago I was totally blown away by Defiatory's intense and uncompromising attitude with regards to all out thrash - this album is no exception! The albums final hurrah, is the six and a half minute long 'Counting Bones' - an epic in all senses of the word. From its mellow, anticipation filled intro, to its blistering speed and aggression, 'Counting Bones' rounds off a skull crushing, bone breaking barrage of top notch thrash.

Overall, a fast paced and furious assault of blistering thrash metal, 'Apokalyps' is a terrific album.
