Crazy Lixx are a hard rock band from Sweden formed in 2002 and releasing their debut album 'Loud Minority' in 2007. Three more studio albums followed, 'New Religion' (2010), 'Riot Avenue' (2012), and 'Crazy Lixx' (2014). with the band releasing 'Ruff Justice' in 2017. 'Forever Wild' is the bands sixth studio album and was released in 2019.
Combining the sights and sounds of such iconic hard rock bands as Bon Jovi, Poison and (early) Skid Row, Crazy Lixx are a bombastic breath of fresh air, delivering happy mood inducing party anthems of the most infectious nature. Opening with the hard rock swagger of 'Wicked', the album is quickly into its heavy hitting stride. A catchy and sing a long style chorus is gonna be sung by everyone everywhere. This is old school hard rock, the kind that Poison, Ratt and Cinderella made well known during the eighties and early nineties. 'Break Out' maintains the party feel, displaying a gorgeous opening guitar riff that buzzes like the classic sound of the NWOBHM. More up tempo and energised than 'Wicked', 'Break Out' is foot stamping, head nodding hard rock of the most infectious kind. 'Silent Thunder' is anything but silent, it is a high kicking, heavy punching, elegant thunder storm. The heaviest rocking song on the album so far, 'Silent Thunder' is catchier than a North Sea fisherman on his best day.
Ballsy and bluesy with a little bit of an attitude, '(She's Wearing) Yesterdays Face', is a rougher styled brand of hard rock, similar to old school Aerosmith. Crazy Lixx may be from Europe, but have clearly taken on a huge influence from the American hard rock genre, yet keeping the harder edge that European hard rock has compared to the American style. The longest song on offer, stretching past the six minute mark, is the hard hitting power ballad 'Eagle', well maybe just a little too hard hitting for ballad territory. But who really cares when the hard rock swagger is this good. The catchy chorus is gotta be a crowd favourite in a concert sing a long, surely! Creeping over the horizon, 'Terminal Velocity' sneaks up on you and foot thumps its way on by, reeking of eighties style attitude laden Aerosmith. How the hell Crazy Lixx manage to meld all these influences together to create one of the best hard rock sounds I have heard this year, is magical. Every song is a party anthem, with choruses to be sung a long to. So get your voices warmed up and prepare for an almighty sing a long.
'It's You' may have the ideal title for a sentimental ballad, but nope, it's a hard hitting, sharp edged slice of the best hard rock on offer. Up tempo, highly energetic and so infectious you'll be addicted within moments. 'It's You' is a sing a long anthem of the highest order and one of the most memorable songs the album has to offer. And now we're entering ballad territory - 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' is the albums lighters in the air moment, the gentle sway from side to side, the emotional release, the passionate performance of a band at the top of their game. Crazy Lixx deliver a cracking power ballad that will have lighters burning bright from start to finish. On the flip, 'Weekend Lover' is energy fuelled, bombastic and very close to dropping into the traditional heavy metal genre. High paced with an electric buzz style feeling, 'Weekend Lover' is gonna get a party started wherever it is played. Final song on the album is (presumably) the title song, 'Never Die (Forever Wild)'. And what a way to end an album, just wow. High tempo, high energy, highly bombastic and hitting harder than a heavyweight boxing world champion, 'Never Die (Forever Wild)' is a glorious gallop of infectiousness.
Overall, pumping hard rock, full of energy and bombast, Crazy Lixx deliver a heavy hitting and sharp edged album of catchy and infectious rock.
