| CobraKill are a heavy metal & hard rock band from Germany formed in 2020, releasing the three song demo 'CobraKill' later the same year. Influenced by the sleaze metal and rock evolution of the late eighties, spearheaded by the likes of Motley Crue, WASP, Alice Cooper and Kiss, CobraKill (in their own words) are all about "hairspray, make-up, leather and rivets" - and I for one am not gonna disagree! The bands debut album 'Cobratör', released in 2022, is a fierce, fast, and furious thirty minutes of scorching metal and rock... | ||||||
| ...blazing out of the blocks with the scorching 'Silver Fist'. I haven't a goddamn clue what these guys have been feasting on since the release of their demo (less than two years ago), but the bands sound is now much harder, abrasive, and more aggressive than ever! As confirmed by the scorching 'Silver Fist' - hitting hard and kicking harder. The band are firing on all cylinders, working everyone into a frenzy! This could be a very good half hour of metal...and rock. 'Cause while there's still elements of rock, the album is primarily metal based. More abrasive than the opener, 'Deathstalker' is also heavier, and features all the hallmarks of traditional heavy metal. But it's the vocals of singer Nick that have a raspy grit that I've come to expect from the sleaze and glam metal genre, mainly from growing up listening to Skid Row, Cinderella, Faster Pussycat, and Aerosmith. CobraKill would definitely not sound of place alongside these bands. | ||||||
| Title song 'Cobratör' hits like a steamroller, flattening everything in sight. The hard hitting intensity with which the band opened their debut album, is still hitting hard, and fizzing with ginormous levels of energy. The head bang ability of the opening triple salvo has been fantastic - and I still can't make up my mind whether the band is metal or rock! They really do stand on the border between the two genres. 'Desperados' is the fastest song heard so far, and has a little touch of the punk attitude about it. When you think of the legendary Motorhead, who were always recognised as a punk rock inspired metal band, CobraKill and more specifically 'Desperados' displays the exact same sound and urgency of the British icons and their unique ability to rattle off short sharp bursts of energy - otherwise known as songs! The band power on with 'Electrifier', the intensity not dropping, but the rockier side of the German outfit coming to the fore. I tell ya, the worldwide metal and rock fan base are gonna take CobraKill to heart - the bands sound highly infectious and addictive. | ||||||
| Landing fairly and squarely in the hard rock genre for the first time, 'Cobratör' (the album) shifts away from metal with the pulsating 'Bring It, Sugar' - the band equally adept at performing both metal and rock numbers. Also, the transition between the two styles is seamless, effortless, and as natural as breathing. 'Lavender Haze Gypsy' remains on the rockier side of the metal/rock border, but dishes out one hell of a battering - yet has short slower passages which only adds to the atmosphere. An atmosphere of solid fucking rock that is fiery, punchy, and very, very attractive. Staying in rock territory, the album is brought to a close with an incredible power ballad - 'We've Just Begun' a sparkling lighters in the air moment, full of emotion and sentimentality. I may have to listen closer to the lyrics, but I think CobraKill are setting out their manifesto for world domination! And with lines like "one day glory and fame will find me", "we've only just begun", and "we're gonna win" - I believe that one day they just might! | ||||||
| Overall, a very hard hitting half hour of metal and rock, highly infectious and overly attractive. | ||||||
