We Remain

Carbon Black are a groove/thrash metal band from Australia formed in 2013, releasing their debut E.P. 'Principium' in 2014. The bands first full length album, 'End Of This' was released in 2018, with sophomore album 'We Remain' emerging in 2022.

Four years after their debut album, (which coincidentally came four years after the bands debut E.P.), thrashy groove metallers Carbon Black make an emphatic return to the metal scene with a savage seven song spree! For thirty minutes the band belt, batter, and bludgeon the senses with their unique blend of thrash and groove metal. The albums first ferocious foray 'Red Flag', is quickly into its stride, spreading savage intent with glee - smiling every time it whacks you round the fucking head! The throaty growly vocals are menacing, perfectly suited to 'Red Flag's torrent of ferocity. Pounding the senses with an infectious hard rocking rhythm 'The One Who Knows My Name' displays a jack hammer style riffing to get your heads nodding - hard!

Slowing the pace a little, and injecting more melodious intent than the opening double salvo, the band groove on with the heavy hitting 'Scars', proceeding to change pace and tempo, exhibiting blistering speed blended with the songs root foot stomping attitude. And the vocals - so aggressive they're gonna be charged with GBH! Featuring the powerhouse metal singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (The Three Tremors, KK's Priest, ex Iced Earth, ex Judas Priest), 'Under Order' has a more "heavy metal" feel to it than anything heard so far. The bands root groove metal sound is still in there though, but metal traditionalists will be attracted to 'Under Order', and may just be converted to Carbon Black's meld of groove/thrash metal. Ferocity takes front and centre with the searing riffery of 'We Bleed' - a heavyweight of the most colossal kind! Thumping, stomping and ferociously screaming, 'We Bleed' is aggressive and intimidating - and a song I wouldn't wanna meet down a dark alley in the dead of night!

With no let up in the albums unrelenting attitude and anger, 'One Enemy' displays traits of grunge as it opens - then roars into life to become a ferociously fuelled rampage. Loaded with a jack hammer style rhythm, 'One Enemy' shudders the ground as it hurtles on by. Simply breath taking! The final song on the album 'Our Reprise', clocks in at over seven minutes in length - and took me by one helluva surprise! A swaggering, mid paced groove laden riff is complimented with the least growly vocals on the album. And a touch of the blues too! Yep, you read that right - blues! Carbon Black pushing their song writing to new limits, 'Our Reprise' is out of character for a groove/thrash metal band, but boy does it work - and it fits! And as 'Our Reprise' comes to a close, it gets heavier, darker, and (did I say) heavier!

Overall, a ferocious and feisty rampage of heavy hitting, groove laden thrash metal.
