The 7 Savage 1984 - 1992 |
||||||
Boxed Set | ||||||
W.A.S.P. are a heavy metal band from the USA founded in 1982 by guitarist and singer Blackie Lawless. The band have enjoyed a glittering, yet sometimes controversial forty career releasing sixteen studio albums, three live ones, and over twenty singles...many of which featured in the UK rock and metal singles chart top ten, including three number one's - 'Scream Until You Like It' (1987), 'Mean Man' (1989), and 'The Real Me' (1989).
And with the band celebrating the fortieth anniversary of their explosive self titled debut album, Madfish release the compilation boxed set 'The 7 Savage 1984 - 1992', featuring the bands first five studio albums released on Capitol Records - 'W.A.S.P.' (1984), 'The Last Command' (1985), 'Inside The Electric Circus' (1986), 'The Headless Children' (1989), and 'The Crimson Idol' (1992). Also in the set, is the bands live album 'Live... In The Raw' (1987), along with a CD full of rare demo's, B-sides and live songs, a meticulously crafted 60-page hardback book with exclusive photographs by acclaimed metal photographers Ross Halfin, Tony Mottram, David Plastik and Paul Natkin, liner notes from Amit Sharma (Kerrang!, Planet Rock), and exclusive commentary from Blackie Lawless himself.
Bursting out of Los Angeles in 1984 with the bands debut, I don't think anyone was ready for the tornado of in your face, immensely energetic raunchy rock and metal from the vividly creative mind of Florida born, raised in New York Blackie Lawless - the band literally, taking the world by fucking storm! And you just have to take a look at the bands live performance video 'Live At The Lyceum, London' (released in 1984) to understand the kinda hell that was coming via outrageous stage theatrics heavily influenced by Alice Cooper and Kiss.
Back in 1984, I and most other metalheads, were rocking out to new albums from established bands, such as Saxon's 'Crusader', Iron Maiden's 'Powerslave', Twisted Sister's 'Stay Hungry' and Dio's 'The Last In Line' - when out of America comes a metal band with a muscular sound and a dress sense that made glam metallers Mötley Crüe look like amateurs! Just who were these raucous rabble rousing rascals? W.A.S.P. that's who! And armed with an album rammed to the hilt with ten power driven and immensely energetic songs, W.A.S.P. ushered in a new era in metal, with songs such as 'I Wanna Be Somebody', 'L.O.V.E. Machine' and 'On Your Knees' raising the heavy metal bar to new heights!
And as an old saying goes "the rest is history" - W.A.S.P. dominating the eighties and early nineties, performing sold out concerts all over the world and appearing twice at the legendary Monsters Of Rock festival at Donington Park, England in 1987 and 1992. And in 2025, W.A.S.P. will be appearing at the Wacken Open Air festival, Germany as part of the bands "Album ONE Alive Tour" performing, for the first time in its entirety, the bands debut.
The influence of W.A.S.P. on numerous generations of bands is undeniable, the bands place in heavy metal history cemented a long time ago with four fabulous album releases during the eighties - arguably the greatest decade ever for metal evolution! And I, just like W.A.S.P. was around at that time and loved every fucking minute of it - both of us still going strong today! So if you wanna know what all the excitement and fervour was surrounding a fiery new band bursting out of America all those years ago, 'The 7 Savage' boxed set has all the answers you need!
Overall, a superb seven disc collection featuring the early albums of a legendary band that helped define heavy metal music - W.A.S.P.
