Out Of The Frontline Trench E.P.

Sodom are a thrash metal band from Germany formed in 1981 releasing an E.P. in 1984 and their first full length album in 1986. Along with their countrymen Destruction, Kreator, Tankard and Exumer, Sodom helped to evolve the sound of German thrash metal. Since their first album, Sodom have released a further fourteen studio albums, four live albums, numerous E.P.'s and compilations, and in 2019 released the E.P. 'Out Of The Frontline Trench'.

With a new studio album due for release in 2020, German thrash metal legends Sodom release a five song E.P. containing three new songs, a re-recorded classic and a live recording. First song on the E.P. 'Genesis 19' is classic Sodom - fast paced, brutal and blunt, giving fans exactly what they crave,,,thrash metal to ignite and excite the senses. Aggressive and fierce, 'Genesis 19' is energetic, head bang able thrash.

The next two songs on offer, deal with the horrors of World War One, and what the soldiers of the time felt as they advanced toward certain death. 'Down On Your Knees' hits harder than the previous song, incorporating passages of the mid tempo and brutal style of thrash, so synonymous with the German thrash metal scene. 'Out Of The Frontline Trench' is the shortest song on offer, yet still has plenty to give. It is the least thrash metal song of the three new songs, inspired more by the sound of traditional heavy metal.

Thirty years since the release of the seminal 'Agent Orange' album, the current line-up have re-recorded the albums title song. Not changing the style or vibe of the song, Sodom keep true to their original - fast paced, brutal and aggressive. The final song on the E.P. is a live recording of 'Bombenhagel', taken from the bands 1987 album 'Persecution Mania', and recorded live at Schalke's Veltins Arena in June 2018. Capturing the band at their ferocious best, Sodom prove why, after nearly four decades, they remain at the forefront of the worldwide thrash metal scene.

Overall, classic sounding Sodom, giving fans a taste of what to expect from the bands upcoming album - I for one cannot wait.
