Onslaught are a thrash metal band from the UK formed in 1982 by guitarist Nige Rockett. The band released their debut album 'Power From Hell' in 1985 and the follow up 'The Force' in 1986. The band have endured a number of line-up changes and even disbanded for over a decade, but have always remained an iconic inspiration for many new bands, and are an important part in the history of British heavy metal. In a career spanning over thirty years, Onslaught have released six studio albums, two live albums and one compilation.    
             
Ahh, 1986, my fifth and final year at secondary school, the last year of the O Level exams and the beginning of work experience for a mid teen looking to leave school next summer. My time outside of school was spent watching TV, only four channels back then, no Sky TV see, hard to believe for many I know...shows such as comedy Only Fools And Horses, cop dramas Dempsey And Makepeace and Miami Vice, and wetting myself to satirical comedy show Spitting Image.    
             
1986 was also spent avoiding listening to my sister and her friends screech along to pop, as my interest in music was of the much heavier variety - Heavy Metal. On my record player, yes readers, vinyl records... was 'Somewhere In Time' (Iron Maiden), 'Master Of Puppets' (Metallica) and 'Reign In Blood' (Slayer), the debut albums by new bands Flotsam And Jetsam ('Doomsday For The Deceiver'), Sepultura ('Morbid Visions') and King Diamond ('Fatal Portrait') and sophomore album releases by Metal Church ('The Dark'), Kreator ('Pleasure To Kill') and Megadeth ('Peace Sells... But Who's Buying'), along with 'The Force', by a new thrash metal band from the UK, Onslaught.    
             
More aggressive and much more successful than the bands debut album the previous year, 'The Force' is regarded as a classic, and a pivotal moment in the history of British thrash. And what an honour it is for me now, after thirty three years, to be able to review a new release from a band that helped shape my musical direction all those years ago. 'A Perfect Day To Die' is the new single from Onslaught, with founding member, guitarist Nige Rockett, leading, or should that be shredding the way and also ('The Force') singer Sy Keeler snarling menacingly at the mic. 'A Perfect Day To Die' is a fast paced, "foot on the monitor" high velocity, fierce barrage of fury, and I for one am so looking forward to the bands new album.    
             
Overall, head bangingly infectious, 'A Perfect Day To Die' is a bombastic and brutal assault of terrific thrash metal.
