Poltergeist |
||||||
Mindless Sinner are a heavy metal band from Sweden formed in 1981 releasing an E.P. and an album before disbanding in 1990. The band reunited in 2001 but broke up in 2004 and then reunited for a second time in 2013 with a new album 'The New Messiah' released in 2015. The bands appearance at the Keep It True XVIII festival the same year was highly anticipated, with their performance recorded, and released as 'Keeping It True' in 2018. 'Poltergeist' is the bands new album, and was released early in 2020.
Having lost none of their energy, power and passion since their formation almost four decades ago, Mindless Sinner enter the next chapter of their lengthy career with the galloping and highly melodic romp 'Poltergeist'. Ten songs across fifty minutes gets underway with the title song 'Poltergeist' - a thundering, shuddering, "foot on the monitor" gallop of traditional heavy metal, with one helluva sing a long chant able anthem of a chorus. Mindless Sinner have opted for the heavy metal direction, rather than the hard rock one of many of their fellow countrymen and women. Poltergeist (the album) a classic example of booming heavy metal, contains another metal anthem to add to the list - 'Heavy Metal Mayhem'. With lyrics such as "this is our destiny", "this is our true religion", and "we shall go on singing this song forevermore, it's gonna be our anthem", Mindless Sinner appeal to the hearts of fans everywhere...and am sure fans will sing along and do the band proud.
Reducing the pace to an almighty heavy foot stomp, 'Valkyrie' turns in a performance worthy of recognition by the epic and glory genres of metal. It is bold, proud and cinematic, and raises the hairs on the forearms such is its intense epic nature. 'World Of Madness' rattles along like a freight train, and with as much energy and force too. Be careful, for if you stand in the way of 'World Of Madness', you're gonna get crushed - you have been warned. Assuming the guise of a power ballad, 'The Road To Nowhere' ambles into life, all mellow and soft, before adopting the epic, heavy foot stomp inspired style of legends Black Sabbath and Dio. 'The Road To Nowhere' fairly booms its presence out of the speakers, rippling the air and causing a tickling effect on the back of the neck. Hitting back hard from the slower feel of the previous couple of songs, 'Rewind The Future' sets a blistering pace across the land, leaving only scorch marks in its wake. The classic sound of traditional heavy metal has never sounded so good.
'The Rise And Fall' takes the album in the direction of mid tempo melodic heavy metal. Still very heavy, 'The Rise And Fall' will keep heads banging hard as it pounds and pummels its way relentlessly on. 'Hammer Of Thor' picks up the pace and hurtles off down the heavy metal road. Very much eighties in its feel, 'Hammer Of Thor' owes much of its sound to the evolutionary NWOBHM movement. And there is that epic sounding mid tempo heavy foot stomp once more - 'Altar Of The King' is a melodic march of heaviness. The chorus is theatrical and choir like, and it's gonna be a joy to a part of the concert sing a long when the band perform this one live, well, hopefully they will! The album is brought to a close with the bombastic punch of 'Roll The Dice'. A thumping slice of traditional heavy metal, Mindless Sinner round off their fourth album in almost four decades with a glorious gallop of the most famous and well known style of music in the world - heavy metal. |
