InnerWish are a heavy metal band from Greece formed in 1995, releasing six albums to date - 'Waiting For The Dawn' (1998), 'Silent Faces' (2004), 'Inner Strength' (2006), 'No Turning Back' (2010), 'InnerWish' (2016), and 'Ash Of Eternal Flame'...
...released in 2024 featuring eleven songs across an hour of power driven heavy metal! InnerWish have shared a stage with such luminaries as Helloween, Judas Priest, and Therion, the Greek metallers going from strength to strength with each new album - 'Ash Of Eternal Flame' coming straight at ya from the heavier end of heavy metal territory, opener 'Forevermore' hitting the ground running at a hundred miles an hour! And with a mighty level of elegance too, InnerWish encapsulating both the traditional and European metal sounds - 'Forevermore' planting its feet firmly on the old school metal monitor to adopt the iconic pose of heavy metal. A fairly thunderous opening salvo to grab the attentions of every listener everywhere, 'Ash Of Eternal Flame' roars on with 'Sea Of Lies', featuring vocals from Blind Guardian frontman Hansi Kursch - InnerWish maintaining the momentum at full throttle! The opening double has been sensational, highly melodious and overly infectious, not to mention the sky high level of head bang ability!
And dropping a gear for the immensely melodic 'Higher', the band invoke involuntary head banging among every listener, fan and follower, InnerWish serving up an offering to ever hard rock fan on the planet too! I mentioned previously how the opening double was a sensational double, it's now a treble, 'Ash Of Eternal Flame' setting the world alight with just its first three songs! And there's eight more to come yet! Imagine the state of the world after all eleven! We'll find that out later, for right now a blistering turn of speed and an incredible upturn in heaviness sees, or rather hears the album storm on at full tilt with 'Soul Asunder' - the intensity increasing ten-fold! Intensity that's been spot on since the album began, InnerWish making a late charge for the Album Of The Year title! The melodic metal sound of earlier makes an emphatic return with 'Primal Scream' turning up the heat to attract more rockers than ever to the bands soundscape, both heavy metallers and hard rockers smiling from ear to ear as the album continues to deliver surprise after surprise to leave a worldwide audience open mouthed in amazement and delight!
The sing a long ability of every song heard so far has been off the charts, an in-concert crowd uniting as one to sing along to everything the band has to offer - what a night that's gonna be! The title song 'Ash Of Eternal Flame', clocks in at seven and a half minutes in length and is the longest song on the album - and what a song it is too! The levels of majesty and elegance go through the fucking roof here, 'Ash Of Eternal Flame' (the song) bringing elements of symphonic and anthemic metal to the fore, the epic atmosphere reaching unbearable heights as InnerWish march tall and proud right through the heart of heavy metal territory. And fuck me - the bombastic oomph that heralds the entrance of 'Cretan Warriors' made me jump, I was so enthralled and lost in the mesmerising title song, I just didn't see that sudden change coming! The heaviness pouring outta 'Cretan Warriors' is so heavy it's liable to knock the Earth into a new orbit, the band shuddering the ground with immense force! The mighty anthemic style of metal takes centre stage as 'The Hands Of Doom' enters the fray with even more elegance and majesty than heard previously - the band taking their sound and elevating it to new heights of excellence!
And bloody hell InnerWish, is there no upper limit to how majestic and elegant you can go? Apparently not, 'Once Again' taking majesty and elegance to even greater heights than earlier, the Greek metallers dropping a hymn-like aura into the mix too, along with a drop in pace to a mid tempo swagger that sees the band striding purposefully across the land. And with only two songs left to go, 'Ash Of Eternal Flame' (the album) has definitely emerged as one of the biggest surprises of the year - 'I Walk Alone' maintaining the jaw dropping heavy metal on show! And at the fastest speed heard on the album too, the band stretching their legs to race on with top level power and pace, the heads of every listener rocking back and forth at an extremely high rate of knots! The mosh pits too, are gonna go fucking wild to this one - InnerWish bringing a sparkling album to a close with yet another melodic masterpiece 'Breathe', a culmination of everything that's gone before to take everyone's breaths away one last time! 'Ash Of Eternal Flame' (the album) is a stunning hour of top notch melodic heavy come power metal that's deserving of a place in every metalhead's collection.
Overall, a sensational album of infectious, traditional come power metal with elements of both symphonic, and anthemic metal.
