Until The Heat Dies |
||||||
Fire Action are a heavy metal band from Finland formed in 2012, releasing to date three E.P.'s and the bands debut full length album 'Until The Heat Dies'.
Released in 2024, 'Until The Heat Dies' consists of eleven songs across an incredibly old school metal and rock sound that was prevalent during the eighties heyday for heavy metal and hard rock evolution - and I should know! For I was a teenager during that glorious decade, growing up listening to the likes of Accept, Iron Maiden, Helloween, Judas Priest and Saxon define a new musical genre that has grown into the greatest form of music ever!
The band has undergone a number of line-up changes during its decade plus career, the current line-up consisting of founding duo, bass player Jarkko Poussu (Burning Point) and Samuli Hakkila (Alliance), along with vocalist Pete Ahonen (Burning Point, Ghost Machinery, Stargazery), and guitarist Juri Vuortama (Alliance) - the bands new album a barnstorming and immensely energetic rollercoaster of infectious hooks, memorable melodies and superb head bang ability! The album opens in sensational style with the fabulous 'Storm Of Memories', the first thirty seconds or so a spine tingling crescendo of anticipation as Fire Action proceed to pound the ground with an almighty thunder, fire and brimstone barrage of smile inducing metal and rock! A quite frankly mouth watering opening salvo, 'Until The Heat Dies' makes the water flow faster with the blistering pace of 'No Drone Zone' - the band displaying an electrifying turn of speed, not to mention the fantastic "foot on the monitor" feel! The albums first two songs have been sensational - just imagine what the remaining nine songs are gonna be like!
Well imagine no further readers, for I am here to tell ya'll, 'Hard Days, Long Nights' returning the ground pounding of the (album) opener - albeit at a much greater level! The ground is positively shuddering here, Fire Action feisty and frivolous as 'Hard Days, Long Nights' batters every listener with a phenomenal intensity that'll widen already wide smiles to new widths - the ears too are gonna be buzzing, for the band have delivered an eargasm of immense pleasure with the albums opening threesome! A threesome that becomes a foursome with the sublime 'Survive', the band melding to perfection the glorious sounds of heavy metal and hard rock - fans of both metal and rock coming together as one to enjoy the excellent music on show. The boundary breaking, genre hopping outfit from Finland are proudly straddling the borders of metal and rock, appealing to a very wide array of listeners, 'Under The Gun' showcasing the iconic "metal gallop", Fire Action maintaining their amazing old school flavour - a flavour that's simply getting stronger and stronger with each song that passes on by!
The Finnish four-piece are on fire, delivering a red hot album that burns hotter than the fucking sun, the band bringing a little power balladry to the fore with the anthemic thunder-driven 'Dark Ages'. Definitely too heavy to be fully classed as a ballad, 'Dark Ages' swings this way and that through metal and rock territory, Fire Action acting as nomads by travelling from this place to that in order to deliver an amazing array of infectious and addictive songs. 'Until The Heat Dies' is gonna be on repeat for some time to come, and is perfect to use as an accompaniment on a long drive, as every song on offer has "driving anthem" written all over them - '13 Arrows' a one minute crescendo building instrumental overlaid with news reel footage from the events of June 12th 1987 regarding US president Ronald Reagan's meeting with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at which he encouraged "tearing down that wall", in a reference to the Berlin Wall which for twenty five years had encircled West Berlin. And two years later the wall, also known as the Iron Curtain was torn down - an event I remember very well, for I was a teenager during the eighties watching the Peaceful Revolution (as it became known) unfold live on TV. However, I digress, back to the music in hand - and a breath taking burst of speed sets the album alight as 'Incitement Of Insurrection' roars off at high velocity, Fire Action sending all the worlds mosh pits into fucking overdrive! The level of head bang ability is higher right now than at any other time on the album, with every listener, fan and follower stretching their neck muscles to breaking point in order to just keep pace with the band! Incredible stuff!
Every song on the album clocks in at just four minutes or less, the title song 'Until The Heat Dies' the longest on offer at five minutes in length - Fire Action keeping the incredible intensity of the album well and truly intact! 'Until The Heat Dies' (the song) is one of the rockiest songs on the album, the melodic thunder rising high in the air is gonna blow big fucking holes in the atmosphere - as if there isn't enough holes already if you believe global warming's effect on the ozone layer! And shuddering the ground with immense force, 'Curse The Day' is brimming with the buzzing guitar tone so synonymous with the legendary NWOBHM, the band bringing a forty year old sound to the present day and blending it with their (dual) metal and rock roots! And as the (albums) final song looms large over the horizon, Fire Action have delivered an addictive and catchy album that's gonna live long in the memory - 'Midnight Avenue' showcasing the bands entire arsenal! The level of energy here is phenomenal, the upbeat nature too, the Finnish metallers ending their debut full length effort very much on a high, and with the most sing a long-able chorus to boot!
Overall, a sensational album combining the glorious sounds of heavy metal and hard rock, one hundred percent infectious and head bang-able to the fucking max!
