Born To Rule

Disarm Goliath are a heavy metal band from the UK formed in 1994, releasing their debut album 'Only The Devil Can Stop Us' in 1999, and sophomore album 'Born To Rule' in 2012.

Playing traditional heavy metal, British metallers Disarm Goliath are gonna please every metal traditionalist with the bands new album - an eight song, thirty six "foot on the monitor" minute barrage of classic sounding heavy metal, the kind of heavy metal that was prevalent during the eighties heyday for metal evolution when bands such as Angel Witch, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Saxon re-wrote the entire heavy metal genre! The influence from that iconic era can clearly be heard across the albums opening gambit 'Embrace The Abyss' - complete with a "metal scream" the likes of Bruce Dickinson (vocalist for Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (vocalist for Judas Priest) and Steve Grimmett (vocalist for Chateaux and Grim Reaper) made synonymous with heavy metal. And talking of Grim Reaper, 'Embrace The Abyss' pays more than just a passing resemblance to the legendary bands early days - Disarm Goliath delivering metal straight out of the eighties! And the eighties is where we remain for 'Who Rules The Night' - a slightly heavier song than the album opener. The opening brace is British heavy metal through and through, the band flying the British flag very high indeed!

Continuing the heavier direction the longer the album runs, 'Betrayer' opens with a fairly menacing first minute, progressing to turn on its heels and roar off at full throttle - screaming guitars and soaring vocals leading the way. A sensational first three, becomes a sensational first four as the title song 'Born To Rule' storms in and thunders on with all the hallmarks of melodic heavy metal. And that chorus too, catchy as hell and easy as pie to sing a long to - I'm sure everyone will be singing "born to rule" as loudly as they possibly can! 'Man Of Sin's' glides in on the crest of a mellow wave, building a tension fuelled crescendo of anticipation! Anticipation that is rewarded when after a minute the band let rip, the classic galloping style of heavy metal firmly restored to the fore. 'Propaganda (Invasion Of Thought)' comes steaming out of the blocks, Disarm Goliath hitting the brakes to adopt a mid tempo foot stomp! Not for long though, the band pressing hard on the accelerator to roar off once more, 'Propaganda (Invasion Of Thought)' turning in a pace changing, tempo changing performance!

And now for some ground shuddering anthemic metal in the mighty shape of 'Cry Of The Banshee', Disarm Goliath taking a leaf out of the book of anthems by metallers Saxon and Manowar - 'Cry Of The Banshee' oozing a rabble rousing call to arms feel that is just incredible! And to round off a barnstorming and highly infectious album, 'Raining Steel' hits hard and hits fast, the band in top gear as 'Born To Rule' (the album) finishes very much on a high! The pace, power and panache of 'Raining Steel' is everything that British heavy metal is famous for.

Overall, traditional British heavy metal at its best, combining elements of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden to produce a fantastic NWOBHM sounding album.
