Die For My Sins are a heavy/power metal band from Italy founded in 2022 by the Calluori brothers - guitar, bass and keyboards player Fabio (Heimdall), and drummer Nicolas (Heimdall), releasing the bands debut album 'Scream' in 2024...
...featuring a line-up consisting of second guitarist Luca Sellitto (Timeless Fairytale, Stamina, Marco Garau's Magic Opera), and renowned vocalist Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), along with two special guest musicians, guitarist Carmelo Claps (Heimdall) and singer Ian Parry (Elegy, Rock Emporium, Consortium Project). Of the new album, Fabio comments "it is an explosive album made up of nine heavy metal songs characterised by a mix of powerful riffs, catchy melodies, strong vocal parts and symphonic passages" - a sentiment I couldn't have phrased better myself! Although as regular readers are well aware, I'm never short of a word or two to describe an album - especially in regards to the way it sounds and feels!
So how does 'Scream' sound and feel - fucking fantastic! And euphoric too, the sound of pounding heavy/power metal oozing from the album is perfection personified - 'Scream' opening with the barnstorming title song 'Scream'. And the power flowing outta 'Scream' (the song) is all conquering and liable to blow a big fucking hole right through the centre of planet Earth! I tell ya readers, heavy/power metal has a reputation for being a devastating force of nature, and Die For My Sins are no exception - the breath taking (album) opener setting the bar really high! And I mean out of this world high - 'Time' turning up the dials on everything to maximum! The pace, power and oomph pouring outta 'Time' is phenomenal, the head bang ability too - not to mention the massive melodious intent! The quality of the albums first two songs is undeniable, as is the quality of the musicianship on show, each and every musician already proving their ability, aptitude and expertise in other successful bands! And to be honest, when I read the band line-up, my first thought was "this is gonna be good" - and after only two songs, 'Scream' (the album) is more than good! It's good going on great with an even greater outlook!
Boy I'm buzzing - the charge with which the band have come outta the blocks with is sensational, 'Scream' (the album) storming on with the rip-roaring 'Still Alive' - electrifying pace increasing the already incredible oomph of the album so far! Huh, so far! We're only at song number three! Die For My Sins may be a new band on the block but every band member has err, been around the block honing their skills for many a year - and I don't mean they're veterans either, good God no, just seasoned musicians who are fucking good at what they do! So before I dig myself into a deep hole I can't get out of, let's get back to the metal - 'Waiting For Your Hero' the most power driven power metal anthem heard so far! The pace and power is perfect, the head bang ability too, along with a wonderfully crafted sing a long-able chorus break! Simply sensational stuff from the power metallers!
Dropping a gear or two, 'In The Sign Of The Cross' takes a mellower route to the airways, breaking into a canter as the minute mark approaches, settling into a weighty anthemic march as it gets going proper! Eat your heart out the likes of legendary anthemic metallers such as Manowar, Sabaton and Saxon - there's a newcomer coming for your crown! Even in the realm of heavy/power metal, bands such as Accept, Grave Digger, Rage, Iron Savior and even Primal Fear are gonna be looking over their shoulders to see what all the fuss is about! Yea that's right - fuss! For Die For My Sins are causing a fuss, a stir, a commotion even, sending shockwaves right through the heart of the worldwide power metal scene - no-one is safe from the hunger and all conquering desire of the Italian band!
Elegy, Rock Emporium, Consortium Project frontman Ian Parry takes over lead vocal duties for 'Shades Of Grey' - one of the most melodious songs on offer! Hell they're all melodious, it's just that 'Shades Of Grey' has that little bit extra, the bands energy driven brand of power metal continuing to pound the ground hard. I can feel the ground shaking here in the UK even though I'm over fifteen hundred miles away from the band - the bands sound very far reaching far! 'Scream' (the album) has been non-stop, full on and in your face since minute one, 'Dark Symphony' maintaining the (surely) unbreakable momentum! Albeit with one of the heaviest anthemic punches ever - a punch that's gonna flatten every single one of the finest world champion boxers ever to grace a boxing ring! I feel defeated just listening to 'Dark Symphony', the all conquering aura pouring outta the song is taking my breath away - yours too I'd imagine!
An Album Of The Year contender if ever there was one, 'Scream' (the album) has surged into the running with supreme ease, Die For My Sins making one hell of an impact on a worldwide audience - 'Perfect Land' maintaining the albums perfect power metal stance! There's been no shortage of energy and oomph here, every song on offer sizzling just as hot as perfectly cooked sausages on a barbeque! And I love sizzling hot sausages - gimme a bun and a dash o' ketchup for my sausages and I'm in food heaven! And in metal heaven I am with Die For My Sins debut album - an album that comes to a close with 'Kingdoms Rise', the band not dropping the ball for a single second across all nine songs on offer! The sound of power metal is every bit as glorious as traditional heavy metal and thrash - my three favourite genres of metal music, and to be honest my three favourite genres of music ever! And in the shape of 'Scream' (the album), it'll be going straight into my top albums ever archive, an archive that continues to grow even after forty plus years of listening to metal and rock music! And I should also point out here, that my top albums archive is constantly re-visited with many albums listened to time and time again - 'cause in my opinion great albums are timeless. And for me, the music never gets old and will never, ever die!
Overall, a superb forty four minutes of infectious power metal precision, loaded to the hilt with energy, drive and total head bang ability.
