| Anfitrite are a symphonic power metal band from Venezuela formed in 2012 by keyboardist Sting Weiss - the band releasing to date three E.P.'s - 'Origo' (2014), 'Beyond Evolution' (2017), and 'Helena de Troya' (2022), and one full length album 'Clitemnestra' released in 2024... | ||||||
| ...featuring a line-up consisting of new singer Gina Bafile, bass player Jose Mendoza, and guitarist Islander Boza alongside founder Weiss - the bands new album giving greater emphasis to female vocals with a lot less of the harsher vocals that can be heard on previous releases! 'Clitemnestra' is eight songs and thirty minutes of mighty orchestrations and soaring symphonic vocals - and when I say soaring, I mean so damn high that even angels are taken aback by just how high! | ||||||
| The album, comments the band, "takes as its central point the tragic life of Clytemnestra, a mythological character closely related to Helen and King Agamemnon during the events that would trigger the legendary Trojan War". | ||||||
| There's so much elegance and majesty on offer here, it's very difficult to put it all into words - and as regular readers will already know, I'm not usually short of a word or two when it comes to describing metal music! But if you take elegance to be a well-tailored suit, a flowing ball-gown, or a beautifully arranged bouquet of flowers, Anfitrite are way more elegant than all of those - the band displaying a musical beauty that I can't ever remember hearing before! | ||||||
| And when it comes to majesty, majestic is defined as impressive and grand - like a painting, a palace, or a mountain range, 'Clitemnestra' is superior to all of these, standing taller than the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai, which is recognised (as of 2024) as the tallest building in the world! | ||||||
| So I'm gonna forego my usual style of writing, and not review a single song from the album, mainly because you need to hear 'Clitemnestra' in its entirety without anyone's perceived opinion swaying your decision to listen or not! But what I will say is - it's a sensational, jaw dropping half hour of supreme symphonic metal that took my breath away faster than light disappears when you turn the switch off!
