A Year And A Day

Voodoo Sex Cult are a hard rock band from the USA formed in 2011 who have just released their debut album 'A Year And A Day'

As soon as the album kicks off you get a sense of "kapow" as the opening thunderous riff hits you straight between the eyes and 'Cuttin' Loose' does what it says. It stomps off with attitude, reminiscent of the glam/sleaze metal movement of the late eighties. Spearheading this movement, taking into the nineties, were bands like Skid Row, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat and Cinderella. Sleazy, dirty and ballsy, these bands popularised the sharp edged, hard hitting hard rock that Voodoo Sex Cult exhibit. 'Voodoo Rising' chomps at the senses with heavy guitars and a groove that is Pantera-like in its delivery.

'Break It On Down' has a slow, grating groove and vocals that would not be out of place in an American bar way out in the countryside off a remote highway. 'Down And Dirty' and 'Broken' both continue in the same vein as the previous song, with such a slow groove that you would now expect the strippers in that bar to begin dancing on the tables! 'Fade Away' is a ballsy, badass romp of superb groove/sleaze metal with one of the best guitar solos on the album. It is infectious, it is raucous and most definitely a highlight. 'Dead Season' has attitude, has a dark, doom style feel to it and a slow chugging kind of groove.

Heavy guitars and a foot stomping rhythm brings 'Home' to life, dragging you along by the scruff of your neck, as it pounds and pummels the senses. 'Legacy' is one those songs that will have you foot tapping and head banging in unison, but not hard and fast, as the rhythm here is slow, dark, moody and definitely embodies everything that sleaze metal stands for. 'Vsc-17' ups the tempo to become an infectious and catchy, sharp edged hard rock song while 'Sinking Slowly' continues the hard hitting, mid tempo rock with an attitude laden romp. Ending the album is  'Black Jesus'. Opening with the heaviest groove heard on the album, it is dirty, with bar room style vocals, the song shakes, rattles and rolls its way to a conclusion.

Overall, glam/sleaze metal with huge grooves, heavy guitars and slow foot tapping rhythms.
