Cosmic Healer

Velvet Viper are a heavy metal band from Germany formed in 1990 by singer Jutta Weinhold and drummer Bubi the Schmied (R.I.P. 2018) after Zed Yago split in 1990. Velvet Viper released two albums - 'Velvet Viper' (1991) and 'The 4th Quest For Fantasy' (1992) - before the band was put on ice in 1993. Jutta reformed the band in 2017 with guitarist Holger Marx, and this second era of Velvet Viper has released three albums - 'Respice Finem' (2018), 'The Pale Man Is Holding A Broken Heart' (2019), and 2021's 'Cosmic Healer'...

...featuring ten heavy hitting and anthemic styled songs - the album thundering into life with the heavy foot stomper 'Sword Sister'. With its jack hammer style riffing and pounding rhythm 'Sword Sister' is a stone cold slab of traditional heavy metal, with the traditional style continuing with the heavier 'Let Metal Be Your Master'. Harking back to the eighties evolution that was the mighty NWOBHM, 'Let Metal Be Your Master' is a sword wielding forged in steel anthem of majestic metal. The title song 'Cosmic Healer' steps up a gear and foot stomps heavily forward. Bold as brass and as blunt as an old rusty knife, 'Cosmic Healer' (the song) is a crushing mid tempo wrecking ball of destruction.

The plodding pace and anthemic style of the opening three songs are put to one side for a moment, as 'Holy Snake Mother' blasts off at pace, planting a foot firmly on the monitor. And providing the head bangers of the world the first real opportunity for proper head banging. And that chant style chorus - an in concert crowd participation moment just waiting to happen. The quicker pace becomes even quicker, with 'Voice Of An Anarchist' battering the senses with an aural avalanche of fire and brimstone. With their fifth album, Velvet Viper are varying the pace, visiting every corner of the heavy metal genre, catering for a very wide array of fans. Featuring a guitar intro that would not be out of place on an Iron Maiden album, 'Sassenach' wanders in and proceeds to stomp the heaviest stomp of the album so far. The chorus chant of "Sassenach" is gonna please listeners, crowds, and audiences all over the world, as they scream and shout "Sassenach" as loud as they possibly can.

Menacing and darker than anything heard previously, 'Osiris' mixes thunder with a ground shuddering rhythm and an up tempo energetic gallop. The anthemic nature of the bands newest offering runs through the album like veins run through the human body - 'On The Prowl' pumping the anthemic flow harder than ever. 'On The Prowl' is a bouncy and head noddingly infectious romp that just might convert a few heavy rock fans to metal ones. 'Long Shadows' melds the bands anthemic stance with the hymn-like style of metal, making for an epic stroll of majestic show stopping bliss. 'Long Shadows' is the kinda song that will unite an audience and attain a standing ovation - as will the albums final song 'Darkness Of Senses'. Featuring the hymn-like style of the previous song, 'Darkness Of Senses' is much heavier and the foot stomping rhythm more feisty.

Overall, a meaty metal offering from a veteran of the heavy metal scene Velvet Viper, 'Cosmic Healer' full to the brim with majestic anthems.
