200 M.P.H. E.P.

Vardis are a heavy metal band from the UK prominent during the NWOBHM movement in the eighties when they released five albums. Their 1986 album 'Vigilante' was recently reissued through Hoplite Records, and the band have just released a brand new five song E.P.

Vardis made their mark in history by delivering blues tinged hard rock/metal that was catchy and infectious. Their new E.P. takes on that mantle, opening with the foot tapping 'Jolly Roger' with its chopping, chugging guitars, you will find yourself smiling and nodding your head gently in appreciation of an infectious song. 'The Knowledge' picks up the tempo yet retains the infectious guitar sound and catchy, almost barn dance, slap my thigh feel. Vardis are a band that play feel good, happy mood invoking tunes and the first two songs definitely do just that.

Vardis (and I'm sure the guys won't mind me saying this) have been around for many years, have plenty of experience and are accomplished musicians. This shows in the delivery of their music...there is passion, desire and a definite aim to please. 'Dirty Money' will get your feet stomping, hands waving and you, smiling like a lunatic as the awesome guitar sound chugs relentlessly. Not heavy metal, but definitely heavy rock with a strong hint of blues that has so many memorable hooks and grooves, this E.P. will re remembered for a long time to come.

Turning on the speed is 'Move Along' and is the fastest song out of the four on offer here. Sparkling guitars and a rhythm section that is both raucous and infectious 'Move Along' echoes everything that Vardis began all those years ago. With a bonus song, a live recording of 'The World's Insane', capturing the passion, desire and the bands' blues tinged rock, Vardis are not definitely not here for a trip down memory lane.

Overall, heavy rock with a huge blues influence, delivering a feel good party vibe that will have you tapping your feet and smiling with every song.
