Cycle Of Disaster

Välvera are a thrash metal band from Brazil formed in 2010, releasing their debut album 'Cidade em Caos' in 2015. The bands second album 'Back To Hell', was released in 2017, with their third album 'Cycle Of Disaster' a 2020 release.

The thrash metal scene in Brazil was (arguably) started in the mid eighties by Sarcofago, Executer and Sepultura. These three bands put Brazil on the international metal map, with many bands following the path, and sound, they created. One such band to follow in their footsteps, is Sao Paulo thrashers Välvera. Celebrating their ten year anniversary, the band have just released their third studio album 'Cycle Of Disaster' - which is anything but a disaster! Blending thrash, power and traditional metal traits with gruff growly vocals, Välvera deliver nine songs over a crushing forty furious minutes. The album is kicked into life with the fast paced 'Nothing Left To Burn', running amok across the land, leaving scorch marks in its wake. The gruff vocals are venomously spat forth, and Välvera are off and running - fast!

Title song 'Cycle Of Disaster' slows the blistering pace of the albums opener, opting for the mid tempo Megadeth style of thrash, blended with the brutal rawness of Slayer. What an opening double shot - two distinct styles of thrash, both of them just as awesome. 'Glow Of Death' is the only song out of the nine on offer to breach the five minute mark, and is a thunderous cacophony of heavy stomping thrash to get mosh pits moving. The blistering pace returns in emphatic fashion with the high velocity 'The Damn Colony'. Aggressive vocals and heavy hitting rhythms all the way, the chorus moves in a slightly different direction - more melodic, catchy as hell, and sing a long able, similar to the great traditional heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. What a musical spectrum Välvera have... Keeping the pace going, 'All Systems Fail' storms in, and with riffing that echoes 'Raining Blood', comparisons with the legendary Slayer are gonna be drawn. When the pace changes, 'All Systems Fail' rages forth at break neck speed - heads banging right off their shoulders!

Over half way through the album now, and the intensity is off the fucking charts. The pummelling and pounding is worthy of a police record for GBH - yes, it's that vicious! The bone breaking bludgeoning continues with the blunter and in your face savagery of 'Born On A Dead Planet' - again loaded with a chorus break that would happily fit on a traditional heavy metal album. Välvera may stand firm in the thrash metal genre, but their 'Cycle Of Disaster' album is gonna appeal to fans of the heavy metal and NWOBHM genres too - especially 'O.S. 1977', the similarities to Megadeth across its opening thirty seconds uncanny... And when 'O.S. 1977' gets into its stride, the speed is phenomenal, racing forth like its attempting to smash the world land speed record. 'Fight For Your Life' returns the heavy metal influence to the album, proceeding to move forward at a mid tempo "foot on the monitor" pace. In fact 'Fight For Your Life' is the least thrashy song on offer, appealing more to the traditional metal fans. What a cracking mix of two of my favourite genres of metal music... And to the final song, the shortest on offer, and one of the albums fastest! 'Bringer Of Evil' is high velocity thrash, storming forth at break neck speed, ending the album in blistering style.

Overall, a blend of thrash and traditional heavy metal, Välvera deliver a high intensity rollercoaster of pummelling metal that is highly addictive.
