God Of Storms

Torian are a power metal band from Germany formed in 2002, releasing their debut album 'Dreams Under Ice' in 2005. Joining the legendary line of power metal bands to emerge from Germany, Torian are flying the power metal flag very high. Two more albums followed, 'Thunder Times' (2009) and 'Dawn' (2012) with an E.P. 'Phantoms Of The Past' a 2016 release. 'God Of Storms' is the bands fourth full length album and was released in 2018.

If you're a fan of blistering power metal, delivered at a high pace, with gargantuan amounts of energy - look no further than the latest offering from German metallers Torian. The bands fourth album is mighty, melodic and a majestic march of everything great about the power metal genre. Opening with the infectious 'Old Friend Failure', the album gets underway in glorious style, the heavy/power metal vibe a wondrous and exciting feeling. Ten songs across fifty minutes is a cracking offering, continuing at high velocity with 'Evil vs. Evil'. What a song, what riffage, what power - simply stunning. Delivered at break neck speed, 'Evil vs. Evil' stands proudly in the heaviest corner of the European power metal genre, the corner where you will find legendary power metal pioneers Rage. Riding the crest of the heavy/power metal wave, 'Far From Midian Sky' moves the album up a gear, taking an upward trajectory to the stratosphere. A glorious fast paced head banger of the tallest order, 'Far From Midian Sky' is one hundred percent infectious, catchy and sing a long able. The opening three songs have been breathless, exhilarating and some of the best power metal you're ever likely to hear.

With their twenty year anniversary just three years away, Torian are still passionate, still proud, and still delivering top notch power metal. 'Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken' is a title that perfectly sums up the bands attitude. Bordering on the symphonic metal genre, 'Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken' is a melodic march of classic European power metal - big riffs, bombastic and a catchy sing a long chorus. In the shape of 'God Of Storms' Torian are delivering laser targeted power metal, relentlessly  hitting the sweet spot with every song on offer. 'Saint Of The Fallen' maintains the bands glorious march, taking a step into the epic genre of heavy metal. At the halfway point through the album there has been no let up in pace or power, each song a corker and an immediate like. And boy oh fucking boy, what a song 'Crimson Born' is. High velocity, high octane speed metal rises high, as 'Crimson Born' scorches the Earth as it hurtles on by. Still maintaining the albums overall melodic edge, the chorus break is an anthemic sing a long able chant. Extremely breath taking, 'Crimson Born' is the best song on the album.

With still no let up in the relentless barrage of bombastic energy, 'God Of Storms' powers on with the electrifying 'Blackened Souls'. Thundering along at a high pace, 'Blackened Souls' is majestic, symphonic and sing a long able. Torian have not put a foot wrong over the albums first seven songs, and as eighth song 'Stonehearted Nation' comes to life, the band still don't. More epic and glory genre footed than any other song on the album, 'Stonehearted Nation' is a mid tempo melodic monster. And still no chance of a breather either, the album rocketing on with the speedster 'Thousand Storms'. Fists punching the air, heads a blur as furious head banging ensues, 'Thousand Storms' is the fastest and most savage song on offer, yet still emanates the huge melodic edge that the album has had from the start. Now did I say 'Crimson Born' was the best song on offer? Time for a change in assessment - 'Thousand Storms' is now the best song on offer. Bringing the curtain down on a glorious gallop of highly entertaining heavy metal, is 'A Glorious Downfall', an eight minute plus mighty epic that British legends Iron Maiden would be proud of. Mid tempo mastery, a guitar buzz sound emanating the NWOBHM, anthemic and infectious, 'A Glorious Downfall' is a fabulous ending to a fabulous album.

Overall, a breath taking and exhilarating gallop of superb power metal, 'God Of Storms' is one helluva album and a must have addition to a power metal fans collection.
