Untold

Timeless Rage are a symphonic power metal band from Germany formed in 2012, releasing their debut E.P. 'Forecast' the following year. Performing with bands such as Battle Beast, U.D.O, Axxis, and Bonfire, Timeless Rage began raising their profile, only for everything to fall apart, with the band entering a period of inactivity. Reforming in 2019 with a new line-up, including a new singer, the band began recording for their debut album 'Untold' - released in 2022.

Germany has a rich heritage in producing world class metal bands in the genres of power, thrash, and traditional metal, but not so much in the realms of symphonic metal. Timeless Rage are here to right that wrong. Their debut album is eight songs and forty plus minutes of atmosphere, orchestral keyboards, and hard hitting yet melodic metal. The album opens with the atmospherically tension filled intro'd 'Far From Home', adopting a mid tempo majestic march as it gets underway proper. The vocal delivery of new singer Frank Breuninger is a mix of growly and raspy with a bit of grit thrown in - a unique sounding vocalist if ever I heard one. The pace quickens for 'Disunity', the familiar gallop of traditional heavy metal coming to the fore, with the chorus a highly infectious and sing a long-able affair. A bright and breezy opening double that sets the tone for the rest of the album, which powers on with the title song 'Untold' - delivering a punchier sound than either of the two previous songs.

The pace is also full of thunder as it rocks the "foot on the monitor" vibe of traditional heavy metal - hmm, I've said that twice now! Timeless Rage are blending their root sound with that of classic heavy metal, opening their style of music up to a very wide audience. 'Resurrection' picks up pace and becomes the fastest song heard so far, although a brake hitting moment occurs over the chorus break, before resuming the punchy pace. The mix of styles is proving to be a very intriguing listen, constantly not knowing which way the album will turn next. Towards a keyboard intro that's where, 'Ocean Twilight' a more mellow and lazy like Sunday morning stroll. Building the anticipation, 'Ocean Twilight' becomes a heavy foot stomp, yet retains a certain regal feel that makes it majestic and fairly imposing.

Galloping forth with purpose and intent, 'Piece Of Heaven' is a searing slice of symphonic power metal come heavy metal. The foot on the monitor feel of traditional metal once again rises to the surface, with metal heads all over the world banging their heads hard to salute a cracking romp. Pace remains high for '2 Elements' - a majestic march of infectious melodic metal, the bands symphonic roots coming to the fore. Maybe '2 Elements' is actually the fastest song on the album, giving every fans neck muscles a serious workout. And as the bands debut nears its final song, 'Untold' (the album) has been a breath of fresh air, a refreshing new take on blending symphonic and traditional heavy metal. Fair play Timeless Rage for taking a unique stance. The final hurrah 'Warrior', is a scorching romp of galloping metal - and was actually the first Timeless Rage song I ever heard. My expectation was for a full on and fast paced album, but I have been surprised by the variety and range of songs on offer. An album that will definitely take several listens to capture everything it has to offer.

Overall, a glorious mix of symphonic and traditional heavy metal, Timeless Rage offer variety in abundance.
