Something Bigger

The Midnight Devils are a hard rock band from the USA formed in 2017 by bass player and lead singer Sam Spade. The band is completed by Sniper on guitar, and Jimmy Mess on drums. 'Something Bigger' is the bands debut album...

...and has seen the band tour nationally, perform at the 2018 Rocklahoma Music Festival, and tour as support to legendary UK sleaze rockers The London Quireboys. The Midnight Devils are a brash blend of glam rock and sleaze rock - think T. Rex, Sweet, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, and Poison. The bands debut album is fifty heavy rocking minutes, with eleven songs to enjoy - and enjoy you will, for The Midnight Devils manage to create a good time party rock feel with every song on offer. Getting the party started, is the heavy hitting sleazy rocker 'Pink Halo'. Sharing some attributes that you'd hear in a punk song, 'Pink Halo' is a fusion of eighties glam, punk, and sleaze rock. And right there, you have the signature sound of The Midnight Devils. With a massive injection of oomph, '2 Miles Down' is a gritty hard rock offering, taking a long look at the heavy metal genre with its buzzing NWOBHM sounding guitar riffage.

Picking up the energy level and injecting a dose of good ol' fashioned rock 'n' roll, The Midnight Devils storm forth with the intoxicating 'Bleed Betty Bleed'. And that chorus - such joyous enthusiasm and sing a long able. 'Bleed Betty Bleed' is definitely gonna get people up on their feet. A Southern rock influence makes an appearance with the bluesy, groovy, sleazy 'By My Side'. A short, heavily guitar led song, 'By My Side' is smokin' hot. Pace quickens for the foot tappingly addictive 'Generation Durt' - a blend of Alice Cooper and, ahem, Twisted Sister! The more anthemic Twisted Sister, and the rabble rousing 'Department Of Youth' era Alice Cooper. I tell ya, the big, bold, and bouncy style of hard rock never gets old. Neither does the AOR influenced hard rock style - think Night Ranger, Danger Danger and Mr. Big - as The Midnight Devils land in very good company with 'Absence Of Light', a lighter rock offering that mixes the bands signature glam/sleaze rock sound with AOR and soft rock. The bands self titled song 'Midnight Devils' is a raucous and up tempo, full of energy gallop. Blowing away cobwebs and unsettling dust, 'Midnight Devils' rocks hard. And with that chant style chorus, it's gonna go down an absolute storm in a live arena.

'No More' takes its influence from the eighties halcyon days for glam/sleaze party rock as portrayed by bands such as Poison, Motley Crue, and also a little of the 'Trash'/'Hey Stoopid' era Alice Cooper. The Midnight Devils really do honour the bands of the glorious past, keeping their legacy well and truly alive. Landing down south again, Southern rock comes alive with the booming bombast of 'Baptized By The Radio'. Infectious and fairly catchy, the "whoa-oh" that introduces the chorus is surely gotta be a massive crowd participation moment! Good ol' rock 'n' roll takes centre stage with the heavy hitting 'Memphis Mile' - treading a groovy blues based rhythm. The album comes to an end with the title song 'Something Bigger', blending all the styles that The Midnight Devils are inspired by. And perhaps 'Something Bigger' is a prophecy from the band, with the chorus line "I got something bigger for you" maybe hinting at the bands next album...

Overall, a hard rocking album of glam, sleaze, and good ol' fashioned rock 'n' roll, 'Something Bigger' will please fans of Aerosmith, Motley Crue and Poison.
