N.I.B. |

(single) | ||||||
The Dreadful Tides are a hard rock band from Australia forming in 2021, releasing two singles to date: (debut single) 'Crazy' and 'House Of Pain'.
The band - comprising of Holden Stirling (vocals), Justin Strudwick (guitar), Darius Kooth (bass), and Leland Hallett (drums) - now unleash a brand new single, a cover of the Black Sabbath classic 'N.I.B.', taken from the bands eponymous debut album, released in 1970...
...a year that the four members of The Dreadful Tides would only know about by way of history lessons in school! I, on the other hand, was born in 1970, the same year 'Black Sabbath' was released and heavy metal was born. In fact, heavy metal and me could well be brothers! Twins even!
But I digress - 'N.I.B.' is characterised by an iconic and highly memorable opening riff, and to be honest, for the first few seconds of The Dreadful Tides' cover I thought "wha...!" but when THAT riff comes crashing in - boy oh boy what a beauty! The band have got it spot on. The doom heavy riffing of Black Sabbath is brought forward fifty two years and incredibly, gets beefed up by the Aussie hard rockers.
The bands hard hitting tribute to Black Sabbath also keeps to the pace of the original and its feeling of eerie menace. 'N.I.B.' in its original form also exceeds six minutes in length, whereas The Dreadful Tides' version is just shy of four minutes - but has no less of an emphatic impact.
Overall, a ripper of a cover version, The Dreadful Tides pay tribute to a classic with professionalism and superb musicianship.
