Voices E.P.

Tezura are a progressive thrash metal band from Germany formed in 2018, with their first official offering, the four song demo E.P. 'Voices', a 2019 release.

Before I begin, whenever I see that a band has described themselves as "progressive", I release a big sigh, as for me, my experience of the "progressive" nature of rock and metal is anticlimactic. While there are some great moments, the music just never seems to get going, to have that fist punching the air adrenaline rush, or get my pulse racing. And before you all pick up rocks to stone me, there are some bands out there that actually buck my opinion...

...and Tezura are one of them. The demo release from these progressive thrashers is energetic and up tempo, with some classic sounding thrash metal riffs. Opener 'Behind The Glow' is quickly into its stride, galloping on at pace, delivering a heavy hitting yet melodic blend. The vocal style is a mix of gruff thrash and shouty metalcore, with a bit of the attitude laden rant of punk. The demo E.P. offers just four songs, with second up, the title song 'Voices'. Sounding more like classic heavy metal, the pace of 'Voices' is increased to a blistering break neck speed. And I find myself actually head banging to a "progressive" metal song. 'Voices' (the song) is a cracker, and should just be labelled as thrash metal.

The third song 'Apotheosis', is full of punk attitude and heavy hitting thrash metal style riffage, mixing growled vocals with clean. The fast riffing style scorches the Earth as 'Apotheosis' scurries on by. Fourth and final song 'Sun' slow burns into life, turning in a performance of melodic thrash metal with a growled vocal style. 'Sun' is another offering to get my head banging hard. And rather than finding this demo E.P. anticlimactic, it has been entertaining, exciting and to be fair, surprising. So if you have the same style stigma I have toward the "progressive" nature of metal, go take a listen to Tezura, you won't be disappointed.

Overall, a hard and heavy, fast paced, thrash metal come metalcore four song offering that will get heads banging hard.
