Second To None

SpiteFuel are a heavy rock band from Germany formed in 2016, releasing two singles the same year. The bands debut album 'Second To None' was released in 2017.

Germany has always been, and more than likely will always be, a breeding ground for power metal bands, producing some of the biggest and best names to ever grace this planet...Accept, Grave Digger, Helloween, Freedom Call, Primal Fear, Powerwolf . . . the list could go on forever, but now comes a new brand of German metal music, hard edged power metal with a thumping, heavy rocking thud. SpiteFuel take on board all the power metal traits and add an abrasive and aggressive hard edge that is simply pulsating. Setting an atmosphere of chilling and menace, 'On Burning Wings' builds into a crescendo before the banging, brutal and fierce 'Purified' takes flight and thunders on. Sparkling guitar work and spitting vocals set an aggressive tone as 'Purified' rattles by. Heads will be banging hard as the album continues with 'By My Hand' heavying things up. Featuring a more melodic feel, 'By My Hand' is a bustling blast of high energy. Pace drops as 'Whorehouse Symphony' stomps in and strides on, all mean and moody with a very heavy chainsaw style buzz of a guitar riff. Even though the album is progressing with a much more heavier vibe than you would expect from German power metal bands, there is a high level of catchiness and infectiousness contained within every song.

A more mellow and acoustic intro to 'Regrets' signals the customary ballad that seems to always accompany any power metal album...'Regrets' does heavy up as it progresses, pushing it more towards power ballad territory, but nonetheless lighters will be out and raised high in the air. First single off the album 'Sleeping With Wolves', is a hard rocking blast of energetic hard rock. Catchy melodies and an infectious sing a long style chorus, 'Sleeping With Wolves' is an attention seeking song. 'Adamah's Tribes' is a short intro leading into the energetic and bustling 'Triad Of Faith'. Adding influences from the progressive rock genre, 'Triad Of Faith' is an in your face, yet melodic and catchy song. SpiteFuel are a band not afraid to experiment with their sound and in the process will attract fans from various musical genres.

Refill those lighters and light them up as 'Fly' glides in, acoustically led and very mellow with a cracking soulful vocal performance. Swaying from side to side is not an option here, 'Fly' will involuntarily get you moving. With a bang, 'Devil's Darling' steers the album in the direction of the traditional power metal sound. Galloping rhythms and buzzing guitars sees 'Devil's Darling' attain the title of the fastest song on the album and is an energetic blast with a very catchy and sing a long chorus. 'It Remains Empty Forever' brings the album to a close as it began, hitting very hard with a massively addictive guitar chug. I defy anyone to not be foot stomping and head banging as 'It Remains Empty Forever' relentlessly chugs on...a cracking end to a very good album.

Overall, a very hard rocking power metal album that is packed with heavy, sharp edged heavy rock to get your heads banging and fists raised high in the air.
