Armageddon E.P. |
||||||
Spectre are a heavy metal band from Canada formed in 2023, releasing the bands debut E.P. 'Armageddon' in 2024.
Featuring five foot to the floor heavy metal anthems, 'Armageddon' E.P. is a blistering twenty minute gallop of head bang ability, Spectre - comprising vocalist Adam Matheos, guitarists Jason McNaughton and Doug Douglas, bass player Jay Driedger, and drummer Phil Campbell, are on fire right from the off, 'The Alchemist' storming in at a hundred miles an hour! The band are in full flight here, vigorously rocking the heads back and forth of every single listener everywhere - 'The Alchemist' a perfect example of how fucking good "foot on the monitor" traditional heavy metal is!
And the band don't break their stride as 'Brick By Brick' thunders into view with an almighty punch to knock everyone flying off their fucking feet - the immense force oozing outta the E.P. right now is phenomenally high! The opening brace has come out fighting from two opposite corners in heavy metal territory, both of them metal to the bone with incredible head bang ability! Spectre increase the pace threefold with 'The Return', a classic "metal scream" piercing the air after just ten seconds, the band planting their feet firmly on the old school heavy metal monitor to emit an iconic forty year old sound! Is it really 2024 and not 1984, the year of Iron Maiden's ground breaking 'Powerslave', and the debut releases from Armored Saint, Grave Digger, Jag Panzer, Metal Church, Running Wild, and Stryper - all albums I bought and listened to (more than once) as a rebelling fourteen year old youth! And on vinyl too, for back then CD's and digital downloads didn't even exist!
How times have changed eh! But not for the fucking glorious sound of traditional heavy metal - a sound I could easily listen to twenty four hours a day seven days a week! As it is, I do listen to metal every single day anyway, and I'm unlikely to stop either when there are bands around like Spectre upholding the whole ethos of heavy metal, the Canadian metallers storming on at pace with the E.P.'s title song 'Armageddon'. And an even greater level of head bang ability than heard earlier, err felt earlier - either way, 'Armageddon' (the song) is an exhilarating barnstormer to delight every listener, fan, follower, mosher and head banger around the world. Bringing the E.P. to a close, 'Meat And Turmoil' is the heaviest song on offer, displaying more urgency, purpose and intent than all the previous four songs put together. What an E.P. and what a way to introduce yourself to a worldwide audience.
Overall, a rip roaring foot to the floor gallop of head bang-able heavy metal, 'Armageddon' E.P. is full of pace, power and sizzling energy.
