Deadlights

Sleazer are a heavy metal band from Italy formed in 2011, releasing two albums to date - 'Fall Into Disgrace' (2011) and 'Deadlights', released in 2022...

...featuring eleven hard hitting songs from every corner of the heavy metal genre. The band lean heavily in the direction of the glorious eighties metal sound - and occasionally the rock one too! For Sleazer don't pigeon hole themselves, crossing the metal and rock border more than once - the album coming to life with the one and a half minute effects laden and tension filled intro 'Sewer Maze', leading straight into the albums title song 'Deadlights'. A fast paced and highly head bang-able gallop of all out traditional heavy metal, 'Deadlights' (the song) is a blistering start to the album, the band setting a thunderous stall out for what is yet to come!

And what is to come you may ask! Heavy fucking metal that's what...the album storming on with the high velocity 'Speed Of Fright'. And a pace that is simply electrifying - Sleazer proving they're no slouches when it comes to a near speed metal tirade! Adopting a more mid tempo gallop though, 'Sarnath' takes on the ambience of old school, planting one foot firmly on the monitor - the band taking onboard the whole ethos of traditional heavy metal. And pleasing every metal head everywhere with their interpretation of an iconic sound - a sound that will never die, especially with bands such as Sleazer keeping it well and truly alive. Showing a rockier side to their sound, the band rock on with 'All My Words Inside' inviting the worlds hard rockers into the bands soundscape. 'All My Words Inside' is one of those songs that can easily slide into either the metal or rock genres, appealing equally to fans of them both.

Lightning quick pace takes over the album with the red hot scorcher 'Of Storm And Steel', forging ahead with a purpose and intent not heard previously. Appealing to thrash metallers as well as metal traditionalists, 'Of Storm And Steel' has got "mosh pit maniacs" written all over it, with walls of death instantly forming! What a simply breathless offering. And bringing to the surface a menace not heard yet, 'Black Witch' is a thundering storm of heaviness blended with an infectious nature that'll keep heads vigorously rocking back and forth. I really hope you've warmed your neck muscles up properly, for they're gonna get a serious workout during this album! 'Horror At Red Hook' - complete with a sinister spoken word intro - returns the thrashy nature of earlier, hurtling forth at a neck breaking speed, Sleazer continually shifting through the gears to deliver a pace changing tempo changing cacophony of metal!

Returning to the fore the bands rockier side, 'Night Desire' is a punchy slab of hard rock come heavy metal, the band standing proudly on the border between the two genres. Although, back in metals formative years - the eighties - 'Night Desire' would have just been classed as heavy metal. How times change eh! I was fortunate to have been around during the eighties to experience the development of heavy metal and hard rock, and the ensuing years of sub-genre creations! And with a mellowness not heard so far, are we heading for ballad country - 'At The Edge Of Madness' slow burning into life, suddenly exploding with fierce ferocity, and rocketing off into the distance. The speed is incredible, the band showing their prowess at delivering many different styles of metal - 'Deadlights' (the album) coming to a close with 'Sky Turns Red'. Maintaining the albums intensity, oomph and energy, 'Sky Turns Red' is infectious, attractive, and addictive - so addictive in fact, you'll most likely wanna listen to the album again! I know I do!

Overall, a blistering barrage of heavy metal featuring differing styles and stances, 'Deadlights' is an infectious listen.
