A Quest For Life |
||||||
Sirius are a heavy/power metal band from Greece formed in 2007 releasing to date one E.P. 'Wings Of Fire' (2017), and one full length album 'A Quest For Life' (2024).
Founded by guitarist and singer Dimitris Napas, Sirius embody everything great about the heavy/power metal genre - from an unstoppable twin guitar attack through to a devastating rhythm section, the band power through all eight songs on 'A Quest For Life' at a fast and immensely head bang-able pace! For forty two minutes the Greek outfit are on fire - 'Unbound The Scream' opening the album with a very heavy clap of thunder! The bombastic thud here is emphatic, 'Unbound The Scream' exploding into life after forty five seconds to surge forth with pace and purpose - the classic sound of European power metal rising high in the air. 'Unbound The Scream' is incredibly energetic too, Sirius oozing an immense amount of energy.
Energy which isn't lost as 'Beyond The Sands Of Time' strolls into sight on the crest of a ballad-like first fifty seconds, followed by a ground shuddering thunder, fire and brimstone foot stomp - nearby buildings collapsing under the sheer force emitted by the band! The head bang ability of the opening brace has been top level, every metalhead around the world flexing their neck muscles to vigorously rock their head back and forth - a motion that ain't gonna stop any time soon! 'Desdichado' enters the fray with an almighty foot stomping attitude, much greater than the previous song - the heaviness here much heavier than the heaviest thing you can think of! I dunno what's in the Greek water to allow Sirius to deliver such heaviness, but it's astounding, 'A Quest For Life' opening with a barnstorming threesome!
And with a mix of everything the first three songs had to offer, 'Edge Of The World' picks up the metal baton and thumps listeners round the head with it! Yes readers, 'Edge Of The World' is that savage, Sirius flattening everyone with a barrage of very heavy, heavy/power metal. Quite possibly heavier than heavy/power metal giants Rage, Brainstorm and Mystic Prophecy - the album taking a much more mellow direction via the two minute long instrumental 'Fragment'. The sudden change in pace and power from everything that's gone before is dramatic, Sirius setting a fairly anticipative atmosphere for more power metal thunder! And the band don't disappoint either, pushing the pedal firmly to the metal to roar louder than ever with the galloping "foot on the monitor" 'Lostlight' - an incredible traditional metal feel descending upon the album! The air here is full to the brim with NWOBHM nuances, Sirius melding their power metal roots with good old fashioned heavy metal.
Bustling into view, 'Land Of Swords' is a raucous romp of heavy hitting power come traditional metal, Sirius maintaining a phenomenal sky high intensity level - a level that's all conquering, all consuming and a hundred percent unforgiving! A bit like this album then! And bringing 'A Quest For Life' to an end, the eight minute long 'Among The Heavens' is the longest song on offer and is a majestic meander through metal territory, the band covering an immense amount of ground to deliver an elegant metal swagger consisting of so many styles I'm not even gonna try and list 'em all here! You're just gonna have to listen to 'Among The Heavens' to discover them all for yourselves!
Overall, a highly head bang-able array of heavy/power metal, 'A Quest For Life' is an intense and highly infectious album.
