Sinner's Blood are a heavy metal band from Chile formed in 2018, releasing their debut album 'The Mirror Star' in 2020, and sophomore album 'Dark Horizons' in 2024.
Founded by vocalist James Robledo and multi-instrumentalist Nasson (Chaos Magic), the line-up for the bands new album is completed by bass player Nicolas Fischer (Minerva) and drummer Guillermo Pereira (Recrucide) - 'Dark Horizons' offering more variety than the bands debut! Across fifty minutes and eleven songs, the Chilean four-piece roam all over metal territory, visiting every corner, nook and cranny to deliver a highly engaging album, 'Bound' marching into sight with a ground shuddering foot stomp! Ground shuddering yes, but also immensely melodic, Sinner's Blood switching to an immensely melodious nature as the catchy chorus invites every listener to sing a long! The changing allure of 'Bound' is sensational, opening eyes - and ears - all over the world, 'Enemy' hitting a little harder with explosive speed! The band hit the accelerator hard here, the level of head bang ability shooting through the roof as the band roar louder than a pride of lions - the opening brace coming at listeners from opposite sides of metal territory.
The variation across the albums first two songs is wide, the band widening it even further with the pulsating 'Not Enough', Sinner's Blood turning a little sinister with a touch of menace, the bombastic foot stomping style of heavy metal pounding the ground hard. Yet among all the heaviness and sinister leanings, 'Not Enough' maintains the melodious streak that's run through every song since 'Dark Horizons' began, the band slowing the pace to a mid tempo swagger for 'It Comes In The Dark' - the recent menacing feel stronger than ever! Sinner's Blood are really mixing up the styles of metal with their second full length offering, 'It Comes In The Dark' even displaying a little of the "brutal barrage" you'd normally expect from thrash metal! Just in what direction the album's gonna go in next is anyone's guess - mine (and bear in mind I've already listened to 'Dark Horizons' at least once), is in an even heavier direction, the title song 'Dark Horizons' oozing a more abrasive texture than everything heard so far! The band are all over the metal spectrum, invading a myriad of metal territories at will to deliver a multi genre, boundary breaking album of immense variation!
I tell ya readers, it's a full-time job tracking Sinner's Blood, the band moving swiftly across the land, dipping a toe into groove metal country for 'The Man, The Burden And The Sea' - the gorgeous guitar riff so glorious it's turned my legs to fucking jelly! Eat your heart out bands such as Carbon Black, Tempest Rising and ThunderBlood, there's a new groove metaller in town! For one song at least anyway, Sinner's Blood resuming their heavy come power come melodic metal stance with the energy driven 'Victim Of The Will' - the bands signature sound reverberating around the entire planet! And at over seven and a half thousand miles away from the Chilean outfit, I can feel and hear it very loudly - so loudly in fact it sounds like the band are in the same fucking room as me! 'Poison' returns a little of the groove metal feel of earlier, fusing it with a much harder hitting, wall wobbling, building crumbling blend of heavy, power metal. The bold nature of 'Poison' is perfectly matched by the unbroken melodious streak that's been running right through the heart of the album since minute one!
What an album 'Dark Horizons' is turning out to be, and there's still three more songs to come - the first of which 'The Voice Within', sees or rather hears, the band enter balladry, an air of serenity descending upon the album. Sinner's Blood are at their mellowest here, inviting every listener to raise lighters high in the air and sway gently from side to side - a motion you'll all do because 'The Voice Within' is so fucking infectious! And with an upturn in pace, power and purpose, 'The Firestorm' is a roaring cacophony of head bang-able heavy come melodic power metal with a gloriously engaging chorus that every listener, fan, follower and concert goer is gonna sing a long to - 'Dark Horizons' (the album) coming to a close with a loud clap of thunder, fire and brimstone courtesy of 'Redemption Or Fire'. Yet despite its thunderous first forty seconds or so, the band roam all over metal territory one final time to deliver probably the most variation heard across any of the songs on offer.
Overall, a bombastic barrage of pulsating heavy metal variety, 'Dark Horizons' spans a multitude of genres to please a wide array of listeners.
