Silentmen

Silentmen are a UK based heavy metal band formed in 2018, recently releasing their self titled debut album.

'Silentmen' is forty heavy hitting minutes of intense and engaging metal music, with a unique blend of influences from various sub-genres of heavy metal. Each and every one of the nine songs on offer have their own identity and sound - with every metalhead finding their own favourite. Setting the album on its way, 'My World' is a slow burner with a heavy Pantera style groove, building to a crescendo before jetting off at a very head bang-able pace! The band a little bit of a tease to begin with, but boy when they get going the heavy metal just flows and flows.

'Screaming Sirens' takes the opening songs groove, turns it into a swagger, and marches on at a fast paced stride - the band turning up the heat and giving the head bangers of the world something to really get excited about! Heads are gonna be rocking hard to this one - the band heavying things up for 'Back To Life', featuring a little more aggression too, than the albums opening double salvo. In fact, the opening threesome has been getting steadily heavier - and more appealing!

The first ever song I heard by Silentmen, 'Yellow Eyes' - reminded me so much of an atmospheric Iron Maiden intro, that I was hooked straightaway! Especially when 'Yellow Eyes' got underway properly, galloping forward with all the gusto of old school traditional metal, planting one foot firmly on the monitor, banging the heads of metalheads everywhere! Such a glorious song and one that will surely become a fan favourite. And all of a sudden - a change of pace and tempo, quite dramatic in fact, the band entering the realm of balladry with 'Closed Chapter', and a lighters in the air feel.

And almost immediately, we're back up and running - fast! 'Redemption' pounding the ground hard, is gonna emphatically liven up the mosh pits, banging the heads of every single mosher until their neck hurts! The pace of 'Redemption' is incredible, Silentmen returning the groove metal style of earlier with aplomb. And not pausing for a breather, 'Lucky One' maintains, and actually heavys up the groove, becoming a mighty foot stomping march of metal. The band love their groove - and so do I!

At nearly six and a half minutes in length, 'Shattered Pictures' is by far and away the longest song on offer, featuring every style of metal the band have in their arsenal. From the mellow meanderings of the opening minute and a half, to the hard hitting thunder stomp, and the ensuing wander all around the metal genre, 'Shattered Pictures' is the centrepiece of the album. Mixing groove with hard rock elements, 'Traveller' brings the album to a close in the most diverse direction Silentmen have gone in - the band pushing their musical horizons further than heard anywhere else on the album.

Overall, a meandering journey around the heavy metal genre, 'Silentmen' offers something different to everyone.
