Creation's Call E.P. |
||||||
Siege Perilous are a power metal band from the USA, releasing to date two E.P.'s - 'Betrayal Of The Dracolich' (2022) and 'Creation's Call' (2024).
Influenced by LARP, historical events and fantasy literature, power metallers Siege Perilous deliver their second E.P. full to the brim with epic storytelling that's gonna immediately grab listeners attentions and never let go! The band - Shaughnessy McDaniel (vocals), Scott Hancock (guitar), Cody Martinez (guitar), Eric Fischer (bass) and Mark Girard (drums), are on fire here, all five songs on offer featuring immense heaviness and a shit tonne of head bang ability. And right from the off, the E.P. opener 'Oathsworn' hits hard, and hits heavy - the ground shuddering under the weight of 'Oathsworn'. And the deep singing voice of singer McDaniel adds even more menace to the bands menacing thunder, fire and brimstone approach to power metal!
A truly thunderous opening salvo to wake up the neighbours, Siege Perilous march proudly on with the mighty foot stomping anthemic metaller 'Across The Rubicon' - every building within close range quickly crumbling to the ground! And when the band up the levels of oomph and bombast, earthquakes begin to form too, sending shockwaves around the entire fucking planet! To say the American five-piece have made a huge impact here would be one of the years biggest understatements, the band planting one foot firmly on the old school heavy metal monitor to adopt the classic gallop of traditional metal courtesy of the E.P.'s title song 'Creation's Call'. Siege Perilous definitely stand at the heavier end of the power metal genre, where legendary, pioneering power metallers Rage have made it their home.
And increasing the pace of the E.P. three-fold, 'Brothers Of The Five' roars off at top speed, Siege Perilous waking up every diehard head banger and thrasher in the world - the mosh pits turning frenzied with head bang excitement! For while 'Brothers Of The Five' offers the best opportunity for some serious head banging, it retains an incredible melodious nature that keeps it away from savagery and ultimately falling into the thrash metal territory! A glorious romp nonetheless, 'Brothers Of The Five' has an immensely infectious sing a long style chorus with the anthemic chant "we're brothers of the five" a dead cert for an in-concert sing a long! The fifth and final song 'Sons Of The Verdant', maintains the E.P.'s recent turn of speed, but increases the heaviness by a devastating amount! What a fantastic brace to end 'Creation's Call' E.P. - and if this is the direction the band are moving in for their next release, I for one cannot wait!
Overall, a thunderous gallop of heavy come power metal, immensely infectious with a sky high level of head bang ability.
