Road To Somewhere

Shiverburn are a hard rock band from the Netherlands formed in 2013 releasing their debut E.P. 'One Step Closer' in 2014 and their first full length album in 2016.

Big riffing and hard hitting, 'Sick Of Waiting' is a barnstormer of an opening song. Packing a punch and rocking hard, Shiverburn owe a lot of their sound to the AOR genre and maybe a little of the pop rock too. 'One Step Closer' is a mid tempo soft rock song with a bombastic chorus. Lead singer and founding member Sanne Heuyerjans has a beautiful voice which can reach the heady heights of symphonic. The band state influences such as Paramore and Nickelback and with up tempo rockers like 'Mistake' blazing a trail of fire as it rockets by, you can understand the influence. Foot tapping is the order of the day. When you take a look down the track listing for the album, it is noticeable that all the songs are under four minutes in length, a short album of only forty minutes, but twelve songs. 'Hear Me Out' is a happy, feel good romp, with a touch of the Alanis Morissette about it. A much heavier groove breathes life into the catchy and infectious 'Last One Standing'. Superb vocals over sparkling AOR riffs and in short that summarises Shiverburn.

'Same Old Story' slows the pace right down and you find yourself reaching for your lighter to hold it aloft, as you sway from side to side. Superbly sung and played 'Same Old Story' is a great rock ballad. Stretching their musical horizons, 'Breaking Me' delivers a heavy, buzzing riff that would be welcome on a Stoner Rock album. The heavier feel of 'Breaking Me' is a bold move from the band and one that works well among the rest of the AOR focused songs on the album. Stepping up a gear, 'Explanation' delivers the heaviest riff heard on the album and foot stomps hard as it chugs relentlessly on. 'Explanation' effortlessly switches to a fast paced break and chorus and back again. Another fine example of writing creativity and a no fear attitude to experimentation.

Slowing the pace is 'A Way Out' and at this stage you begin to wonder if Shiverburn has anything different left to offer. With so many short songs, it is starting to appear that some are sounding the same, an almost "I've heard this somewhere before" scenario. And then, bam! 'Fighters' hits you square in the forehead and knocks you over. Up tempo and buzzing with energy 'Fighters' is a hard rocking song that will blow you away. A chanting, anthemic style chorus to get the crowd singing in a live arena and 'Fighters' gets the tag as the best song on the album. 'You're So Gone' is a power ballad, with so much power that it will extinguish the flame of your lighter as you hold it aloft. And finally bringing the album to a close is the heavy hitting, big riffing 'Burned Alive'. A sparkling rock rumble, bombastic in its approach, 'Burned Alive' is a swaggering end to album that is packed to the rafters with AOR influenced hard rock.

Overall, bristling with a catchy and infectious AOR focus, this album is packed with happy, feel good songs that will lighten the atmosphere.
