Shepherds Reign are a metal band from New Zealand formed in 2016. The bands self titled debut album was released in 2018, with a single 'Legend (Resurrected)', released in 2019. The bands latest single 'Le Manu' was released in 2020.
The worldwide metal community is a family, and Shepherds Reign wholly embrace that ethos, for they are a band of five brothers - Filivaa (vocals, keys), Oliver (guitar), Shaymen (drums), Gideon (guitars), and Joseph (bass). The Polynesian band play metal with melody, running through the alternative metal genre as they deliver a bold, big and epic sound.
Their live shows are energetic, bombastic and explosive, with every member of the band giving it their all to entertain and excite their audience. The bands latest single 'Le Manu', is "inspired by the legend of an ancient Samoan warrior sent out to battle to represent his kingdom" say the band. It is also sung in the Samoan language and features instruments unique to the Samoan culture.
'Le Manu' is a menacing and highly atmospheric groove metal romp. It punches hard and kicks harder, the harsh, but not too harsh vocals adds weight to the songs bludgeoning riffs, and a feel of 'Roots' era Sepultura runs up the spine. The accompanying music video also features the Samoan Siva Tau (or War Dance) performed by a village warrior set in native forestry.
Overall, a very heavy and crunchy riffster, 'Le Manu' is a mid paced thumper, full of menace and attitude.
