Until The War Is Won

Shadowkiller are a melodic, progressive, power metal band from the USA who released their debut album in 2013 and the follow-up in 2015.

Atmospheric, very heavy with a relentless, thunderous pace and you find yourself head banging to the opening song 'Flames Of War'. A rampage of thundering, melodic heavy metal and powerful clean vocals, 'Flames Of War' is a cracking start to the new album. 'Generation Strong' is a guitar driven, mid tempo, catchy stomp with a jack hammer style rhythm that pounds and pounds. Head bangingly addictive, your feet will tap in agreement too. The mid tempo, pounding stomp of 'Legacy' hits the airways and you have proof that Shadowkiller deliver hard hitting, melodic heavy metal that is so catchy and infectious that it makes a smile of affection appear across your face, literally from ear to ear.

Razor sharp guitars, an almost industrial rhythm that hits so hard walls will fall, and you have 'A Place For Freedom' attacking your senses. I say almost industrial, because as the song progresses, the tone changes and the catchy, infectious, foot tapping rhythm returns. 'Staring Into Oblivion' begins slow, is acoustic fuelled and atmospheric before meandering its way into a full on power metal stroll. Epic like Iron Maiden, but heavier, 'Staring Into Oblivion' is seven minutes plus of superb musicianship. A sparkling guitar intro brings 'Survival' to life as it quickly builds into a mid tempo, catchy and infectious ... err, wait a minute, have i said that before? Whilst every song on the album does have its different moments and guitar passages, there is no hiding the definite similarity between them all.

'The Blood Of Many' does have a slightly darker feel as it stomps on but like the previous songs soon falls into the same groove. The title song 'Until The War Is Won' has a lighter, slightly rockier feel to it but the same sounding rhythms are now becoming all too common. The album ends with 'We Stand Unbroken', opening with an almighty atmospheric intro that soon turns into a bombastic thrust of energy that settles into an all too familiar sound. From where the album started, promising so much, it falls into the pit of too many same sounding songs.

Overall, catchy and infectious melodic heavy metal that becomes too predictable, making it a struggle to reach the albums end.
